Love the first and the second one from madsrh.
And the 3rd one from htpc_for_me. I don´t like the icons on the other two.

I have a thougt... you could not make you beautiful splash screens to nice looking boot skins when booting windows? This would be vey nice.

Yes i really like all splashscreens, but could the MP logo be slightly more lightened to make it stand out more.

Just throwing in some more ideas in...

Made the logo bigger and overlap the sides

The next few I tried to keep them simple and not add too much (if any) to the background.

This one has 2 interlaying meanings and they are 1, its open source so every one can have a go and 2, it unlocking your home theater pc.

Have you looked in the "Download --> HTPC customization" section??

Makeing bootscreens from these splash screens don't really work, because Windows XP only allows 16 colors (Win98 = 256 colors), don't know about Windows Vista yet. Anyway, with 16 colors they will NOT look good!

Because the splash screen can't be changed on-the-fly without recompiling the source, I would prefer not to have a razzle-dazzle window that eats up to 1/3 of the screen each time I start the application. In fact I don't feel the need to change it, at all.

IMHO splash screens like the ones proposed are in a way "clunky", and prone to show-off. This is only my opinion, this is not meant to be aggressive in any way. The current splash screen is all I need, it is unobtrusive and only displays the needed info.
