Hi,

I'm kinda of new to MP. Setup an HTPC a while back with Hauppauge 1800 and also MP 0.2.3.0 Beta. But it was a little buggy and since I could not view encrypted channels (HBO, etc), I put the project on hold. Now I recently got an HD-PVR and decided to try again. First I setup ArcSoft TME and it works good - cranked the bitrates all the way up. Then I put on GBPVR and managed to finally get it configured so that the video/audio is running just as good as the ArcSoft TME - it is almost perfect (just slight sync issue with voice, barely noticeable, maybe I'm too critical).

But I want to run MP because of the features. I followed the procedure in this thread and got it working, but the video is very poor. It looks like it is running in slow motion (after the glitches in the first 15 sec). And if I get out of fullscreen and try to use the arrow keys to scroll through menus while the video is running in a window, the whole MP system is running slow.

I'm using Arcsoft video for H.264, but for Audio I'm not seeing Arcsoft so I'm using Monogram. Also, I've tried EVR and VMR9 exclusive, but don't see any difference between the 2, so I've put it back to EVR. I've also set priority of TVSERVICE and MP CLIENT to HIGH. I'm seeing about 25-30% CPU utilization for MP, so it does not look that bad. Also, I reopened ArcSoft TME and I set the bitrates all the way up.

So any ideas why my video is running so poorly in comparison to GBPVR and Arcsoft TME? If it is just because the HD PVR support is still "work in progress" let me know, but from reading this thread, I get the impression it is working much better for others.

System spec:
Core 2 Duo E6300 - 1.86Ghz
3GB RAM
onboard ATI xpress 1250 w/HDMI output

Will any of you awesome people upload some screen shots of what you've been able to do with Hauppauge HD PVR and MediaPortal??????

I wanna see! And tell me what services you use!

Not there yet, still struggling to set it up, but the image quality from a SD box through the ArcSoft programme produces a very, very good image.

Thanks for the reply.

I am also curious... Will MediaPortal + HauppaugeHDPVR work to watch and record television like a regular tv tuner? That is, be able to access your program guide through MediaPortal and not through your STB from your provider.

Thanks!

    Yes. :)

That's amazing. I'm so excited for this now. I'm waiting to buy the HDPVR until the 5.1 drivers are released, though.

I'll still take screen shots of the guide whenever someone has them. I'd like to see a walkthrough of the guide, how tv looks, and recording...

    Thanks!

just some more info - I read about Shift - 1 and I did this and I'm getting an avg fps of about 7-8. This is very low and explains the "slow motion" feel. I've been playing around with this a lot and I think it has to do with the fact that there are 2 processes accessing the same timeshift .ts file at the same time (Tvservice doing the write, and MP client doing the read).

I did the following experiment. Set the timeshift parameters so that each file is only 20MB and have up to 200 files instead of just 20. Now start MP client and then pause live TV. wait for about 15-20 seconds (which is more than the time it takes to create the next timeshift file) and then unpause live TV. So now MP client is playing back the older .ts file and the TVservice is writing the newer .ts file. Now avg fps increases when I do shift-1 and playback is noticeably better.

Finally audio is often getting out of sync

I search and read about the buffering that has been done in mpfilewriter (since this is analog card), but I tried the mpfilewriter.ax file in those threads and it did not help.

Can I get a poll of anyone on this board that has made HDPVR work with MP with an avg fps that is 25+? If so, please post how you configured it to work.

Currently trying to map channels using that schedules direct thingy.

I guess I have to wait for an hour for it to be ready.

    SOOOOO CLOSE!

I've got all my channels mapped, but I can not pick a single one of them to play. When I do try, MP freezes up and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to exit.

    Darnit!

p.s. here's the log of what happens after i open MP and try to play tv: (tv.log)

    Garry,

Were you ever able to upload the fix for multiple tuners? I'd like to test it out this weekend, if you've had a chance to upload it.

    -t

How do I run the statement against SQL? I'm not very familiar with it.

Nevermind, I think I figured out why multiple devices are not working. I'll probably have an updated TVLibrary.dll for you to try later today.
