Remote control custom configurations are done inside MediaPortal configuration under 'remote'. As far as keyboard shortcuts, check the MediaPortal configuration on that as well, but by default just use ESC(ape) key to go back to previous menu.

When I import new films using Moving Pictures, it takes an incredibly long time for the information to be found and downloaded...

Titan skin (only classic home)

I have used custom actions in the "Mapping" section of "HID" since moving to a FLIRC as a remote receiver a couple of years ago...
You could use a different player that handles HDR content but thats more hassle then installing MadVR
