Good question... I just installed SMP without MovPic and can confirm that MovPic .dll is being installed.
Also: shouldn't the settings screen for MovPic and/or TV Series plugin be skipped when unchecked for install?

How did you uncheck it? I thought I made it impossible to uncheck...anyway its a pre-req for the editor so its mandatory for now. The plugin doesnt need to be enabled, but it needs to be installed.
EDIT: I just checked the installer code and noticed it doesnt disable the checkbox so thats why you were able to uncheck it
I will investigate why this is...I have also been meaning to refactor the BasicHome editor so MovingPictures is not a per-requisite but its not that trivial.

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ?
MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback.
If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo.
