Have two mediaportal setups, neither of which produce the mediaportal sound effects. I have ticked the box to have the sound effects. What am I missing out?

MP 1.02 (on W7 and XPSP3)

How is your HTPC connected to your speakers? Through a receiver?
Do you get Windows sounds like startup etc?
I am assuming other audio from within MP is working.

More information is needed.

Sorry.

Yes, get sounds from mediaportal e.g. video, mp3, tv
MPC-HC also gives sound
I disable windows sounds as soon as Xp installation finishes, but startup sounds working OK, before this, and still activated on W7

Connections:

W7 - PC to 2.1 speakers - works
XP - PC to HDTV via phonos - works

Ok if those setups work how is it connected when its not working?

Sorry again, I have not been clear.

Regardless of what I do, whatever system/OS I run MP on, or how the sound comes out (TV or PC speakers) I don't get the MP sound effects. All other "computer" sounds and audio/video sounds work OK.

I don't know if this will help or not, but try a few things,

    1) try switching skins ( try this one: https://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Skins/16:9/StreamedMP/ )

    2) try going into your remote settings in mediaportal (if you're using one, if not skip this) and check the map buttons link and check if there's an on action event that says "click.wav" or something like that

if none work, try reinstalling mediaportal, it seems that for some reason or another mediaportal's not pulling up the sound effect files

Tried changing skins (couldn't use streamedmp as on version 1.02) but no skin sounds.

Check remote settings and key settings and these all indicate skin sounds are linked to the keys/buttons, still no skin sounds

Fixed, I think. Certainly the vintage MP2 installer that I was using no longer installs the LAV filters. I can only assume that these were never part of the install package itself, but rather downloaded during the install, and that link no longer exists. Shame that the installer doesn't indicate this. Last time when I installed the...

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ? MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback. If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo. I have...

maybe setting loglevel to debug might pinpoint the difference between normal and stuck? Preferable with as much disabled as possible also try to see if anything is happening during stuck for the mediaportal process(resource monitor, disk activity, cpu usage, anything) maybe other programs competing for resouces?
