Yes, I use Cyberlink Power DVD for HD content (watch it via MP works great) for my HD 2400.
HD2400pro cards work different in HW support used by Power DVD for MPEG2 and AVCHD content. On a Sappire HD2400pro card the AVCHD is accelerated but not for HDV2 (HD MPEG2). On a passiv Gigabyte HD2400pro it is even worse - no HW support on both formats. I would recommend the HD2600pro for HD video on the HPTC.

Purevideo codec is much better than cyberlink.

If we are talking PureVideo HD, isn't the Cyberlink using just that.. PureVideo HD?

It's a bit confusing, but PureVideo HD isn't a codec per se that you download right. It's the technology that players like PowerDVD etc use.

Check this out. Close, but the ATI card wins. Too bad I have the 8600GT already.
However they recomend the XT over the pro

If ATI could get there drivers sorted they would win, but at this moment no, Nvidia is more stable driver wise and causes less problems.

XT has far more features than the PRO, you just need to search manufacturers for silent version + HDMI would be a nice feature.

    Been there, done that.
Tom's test that does not test the 8600GT btw doesnt rule it out at all.
There are other reasons for me to prefer it, for istance 50hz output over s-video to connect my old sony 32" crt and hdmi cable for when i'll replace it.

Then what the above poster said.

I am pretty sure there is Purevideo HD acceleration for 85/8600 cards in the forceware 163.xx releases.

edit: on windows xp now, I mean. previously it was only vista.
