I read on wikipedia that some HTPC users put their OS on a flashdrive to lower heat, power consumption and noise... Has anyone here tried that and be willing to share the results?
I guess they mean Solide State Discs. They are reckognized as real harddrives and have SATA connection. They are perfect for HTPC but still expensive (10-20 €/GB!!!) If you have the money you can give a try...
You can use a flash drive for Timeshift to reduce HD-usage though (but it will die fast because of the frequent read-write cycles). I think you cannot install XP or Vista onto a "normal" flash drive.
So finally it is still better to buy a good old harddrive (maybe throttle a little bit to get it quiet - but slower)
Ran into this problem following an otherwise sucessful upgrade from MP 1.34 x64 to MP 1.35 x64 the CEC Remote plugin which I use just to control volume and standby, will no longer put my devices (TV & AVR) to sleep when the HTPC is put in standby. Also when I wake up the HTPC MP closes or crashes (not sure which) as per the example in...

Most (all?) small PC cases accept only ITX motherboards, which have only one PCI-E slot. So you could install only one PCI-E tuner card. A quad-tuner card would give you four tuners, but if you wanted more tuners you would need to use the TBS eight-tuner card, or use external tuners, either USB tuners (available with single or dual...

I've been using MP2 now for about 3 years:
I really happy with the way it works, although I can think of many great features I'd...
Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal.
Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...

Hi folks. I have an issue with a new install/integration into my mediaportal system. I have a “mediaportal server” which has the TV...
MP has adjustable audio delay. I don't know whether this works for all video formats, but it certainly works for TS files, and may work for MP4 files.
There is a slider that allows you to adjust the audio delay while playing a video. Press the INFO button on the remote control to display the OSD, select the "Audio" icon, and then...

This is not an audio/video out of sync issue but a delay in audio in playback
I have been using MP for years and noticed their...
The layout of remotes does vary from one model/brand to another. I too find that some layouts are better than others. Generally, I prefer the buttons that I use most-frequently to be positioned near the center of the remote, which is not the case with that particular Dell remote. :(
Battery life is often a problem. A remote that I...
