Hi, I just bought a Vista remote which won't work on XP Pro, and am down $25.

Please reccomend me a remote that WILL work in Mediaportal under XP Pro, that I can order from the U.S.

Thanks

Still doesn't work.

At this point, I think I could get it working, but it wouldn't be worth the effort. I'd rather just buy one, that I know CAN work.

I had the same problem with my clone MCE remote. Couldn't get it to work with XP Pro, even with EventGhost (see below).

I bought a Streamzap remote from Amazon.com ($31), and it works fine. URL for the page at Amazon is Here

Streamzap has support for Mediaportal listed on their website. You can use the arrow keys to navigate menus, the "OK" button to select, the play, pause, fwd, etc. keys for their normal functions, the "Exit" key to back out of each section, the Menu key, etc. It did work out of the box.

There isn't a Streamzap listed in the config program for MediaPortal; I have nothing checked off in there.

The other possibility to try to get your MCE remote working with XP Pro is to use EventGhost, although I couldn't get it to work for me. I could only get basic keyboard emulation out of the MCE remote I bought ... it would never show up as anything other than a USB keyboard, and the keypresses never generated an action in the EventGhost logging panel. The arrow keys would work, but that was about it. If your remote does work with EventGhost, its easy enough to install it and try. It has a plug in for MediaPortal and the MCE remote. You then assign each command by pressing a button and then dragging the corresponding logged action over to the desired function on the MediaPortal side of the window. I actually did it for the Streamzap and it worked fine (and even gave me mouse-cursor movement with the arrow keys), but I decided the native Streamzap functionality was better for my use (moving the mouse cursor with the arrow keys was not that handy.)

You have to be very careful about which "MCE" remote you buy. The ones that just emulate a keyboard (and mouse) are not worth the money you pay for them. With a lot of fiddling with EventGhost it is possible to get them working reliably, but it's not worth the time. I accidentlly got one that didn't even issue the keycodes as a stack so instead of getting events like:

Ctrl
Ctrl+Shift
Ctrl+Shift+F
Ctrl+Shift
Ctrl

it issued events like:

Ctrl
Ctrl+Shift
Ctrl+Shift+F
Shift+F
F

Talk about brain-damaged! You capture the Ctrl+Shift+F, and then the application sees the Shift+F and F events. I managed to work around this with EventGhost (Ctrl+Shift+F puts EventGhost into a mode where it captures the Shift+F and F, and only performs the action on F), but it really is not worth the trouble.

Instead, you need to get a remote that actually generates MCE remote codes. The Microsoft and Hauppage remotes are fine. I use the Hauppage USB MCE remote - the receiver is very unobtrusive, and it works just fine with my Harmony 525.

Exactly, I figure I could use Eventghost and spend a couple hours to potentially get a functional remote, but it's really not worth my time.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

I actually used the Streamzap to program my Harmony 880 remote. The database that Harmony has for the Streamzap remote is not correct, so I had to use IR Learning ... but that worked fine.

Can anyone tell me the step-by-step procedure for bringing up a second channel in pip mode? I can only do it sometimes, after many tries, and it’s not clear what I am doing that makes it work on those occasions when it does. Cannot find guidance on the site. Thanks, N. Again, if anyone knows how to do this, would be much...

I compliment you on the thoroughness of your investigations. (y) Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas what the problem might be. :( Perhaps someone else will post with some suggestions. -- from CyberSimian in the UK

I would have to know more details, and ultimately, I'll have to test it when I get my new display, but an AI answer I got (I don't trust AI and this may not be correct) was that HDR is encoded with the HEVC codec and I know MePo uses the HEVC codec to play 4K UHD Blue-ray discs. So, there is at least the possibility that it will work...
