I have the same issue as Synthetic.
As he pointed out it's not just online videos it's also my trailers - game trailers part.

For me (on XP) I see parts of the MP Gui scrambled across the screen however I do hear sound and that works just ok. Dunno what's up with this. I'm thinking the same as Synthetic, that this started happening after installing SAF. Not sure why. If you want I can deinstall SAF and test to make sure.

Nothing from SAF is in use when you playing WMV videos (Game trailers) on XP.

EDIT:
But not all failed to play, for example "Newest DS" are working fine.

BTW, i downloaded video to disc and even MPC-HC will crash when opening the video, graphstudio do the same.
Can it have some DRM protection?

Hmm, it is VC-1 video...

EDIT 2:
You can download WMV video and use "gdsmux.exe" from Haali to convert WMV to MKV.
But even MKV will crash too, no idea why.

EDIT 3:
Another test reveal the problem.
I muxed WMV to MKV but this time i leave only Video in MKV container - and quest what? It is working!
So the problem is audio track, not video!

Thanks hoborg for investigating.

Ofcourse you are right and totally is unrelated to SAF but :D anyway spending some time finding the source. I think gametrailers just provides crappy encoded wmv, always has, but I guess it's worse for the last couple of months.
Why don't onlinevideos or my trailers use mov I'm not sure since that's also available for most videos.

I hear what you are saying Hoborg, but it sounds a little bit weird / unusual.

It is working normally if you install SAF and then QT things.
If it is done the other way around, I need to rename things... Isnt it easier for me to do it like the first option? or are there downsides to that..?

Of course it will be working, but say goodbay to DXVA in MOV files....

Apparantly I too am having poor reading skills...

One question, though, what about MOV files in e.g. Online Videos as they can't be renamed before streaming? I have relatively limited knowledge about different video formats and containers. Is DXVA important also for MOVSD or only for h.264?

Sorry for my uninformed questions, but I am a little bit confused about DXVA. On the MPC-HC homepage it states:
Unfortunately the MPC-HC decoder only supports the "bitstream mode" at this stage, which means that only the most recent graphic cards are supported :

* nVidia series 8(9)xxx for H.264 only
* ATI Radeon HD series for H.264 and VC-1 decoding
I don't have better than nvidia 7050 in any of machines. Therefore it seems that DXVA is not an option for me with SAF, am I right? Or will DXVA kick in with some other codec?

Of course if you do not have DXVA compatible GPU, this feature is useless for you :)

tomoqv: no DXVA support on those series, so DXVA will never work with any codec on those chips.

----edit----
Hoborg beat me to it :)

If you are on XP, you can disable MS DMO video decoder by renaming "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{82d353df-90bd-4382-8bc2-3f6192b76e34}"key in registry.
This should make Game trailers working using FFDshow decoder.

Hoborg, Arcsoft Total Theater does it in realtime. It just gets the Dolby True HD audio, convert it and send it like a DTS bitstream via SPDIF to the receiver. :)

You can configure AC3 filter to do it similar (known as double decoding), just do not ask me how to configue AC3... (try to set in AC3 config - system - prefer AC3 filter).
