Timeshifting trouble. How to disable it? (1 Viewer)

Please, is there a method to cancel the timeshifting part of myTV? I don't want to use it and I have enough problem keeping MP going without it.

In TV-Server3 you can't disable it, but in the build-in TV2 you can disable it using the MP-config utility.....

A better idea however would be to let us know the problems you are having, and then we can help!

Better to fix a problem then look for workarounds!

I want to disable timeshift because of message about <Unable to start timeshifting. No free card available>. I don't need timeshift so why let it go on to cause a hassle. It is not turned on in MP-config utility - it is greyed out so I can't even enable it if I wanted so it is a problem from the beginning that I don't need!

Some more info would be needed:

• are you using TV server or the build in TV?
• use case when that error happened?
• logs

In Tv server it is not possibe to disable the timeshifting (its always on by design).

This is not indicating any timeshifting related error. It is simply telling that there is no free card available. If you were able to disable the timeshifting you would be still facing the same issue. If there aren't any free cards available then you arent able to record etc.

I dont think timeshift is your problem, this error is related to your TV-Card and channel setup.....please post details of your system and your LOG-files.....

I had the same message.
It was solved bij disable update EPG while idle in the TV server setup.

I hope this will help you.

I can't even open TV Server now. It says TV is not running and then locks up. I will uninstall the program completely and reload it and see what happens then.

Still so much problem. It won't work for me. I'll come back and look at the upgrade when it comes in March.
I think you need a stable "Beginner's Pack" which can do the basic functions of:
Play and record DVD & Blu-Ray,
Play live TV, Record and Play back,
Network to client computers via wireless and LAN.
I think too much is made of Skins full of fanciful and rather childish images. These should come after basic menus that show all options rather than scrolling menus which are pot-luck and have no knowledge of where to find what.
Updates and patches should either be silent like virus programs or use proper installing software like when installing normal new computer programs and updates.
More need of pay attention to user comments rather than scorn and ridicule and asking why don't we contribute. How can we when it doesn't work so often and technology is not just IT but also advanced communication technology knowledge and there is no training?

I can see why you are frustrated - however it really would help if you could manage to post some log files. then people can tell you if there is a simple fix.

Media Portal is quite complicated, so its difficult to have it work on every possible combination of PC out there - just imagine the millions of different possible combinations of software versions, tv cards, graphic cards etc etc!!

Then think about the difficulties of networking it all together!

To be fair, each version of MediaPortal becomes easier for new users - they are slowly adding in more checks for varios common issues etc. however, it will never be a simple install for all users.


One thing I think that could go a long way towards helping new users however is a "Setup Wizard". i.e. once installed, an application that just goes and asks the user questions to help setup the system (without going into configuration).
e.g.

Where is your Music? ..... "xxxxx found"
Where are your Films? ... "xxxxx found" "lookup IMDB information?"

"We found the following TV Card _____, would you like to scan for channels? [yes/no]" .... "123 channels found... [Test?]"

and so on.

so once the user has been through this setup, on the first launch of mediaportal they should have most of the things working.

I guess the problem is that most users expect it to "just work", having ro run and configure the application.. too much hassle
