I installed the TV Logos as mentioned in TVChannelLogos - MediaPortal Manual Documentation in C:/Programme/MediaPortal\Thumbs\TV\Logos and nowhere does a logo appear. Any ideas what I did wrong?

On XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Thumbs\TV\Logos
On Vista: C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Thumbs\TV\Logos
Logo name must be same as channel name.

Ok, thanks that was the problem. I got mixed up with the directory already existing in C:\Programme\Team Media...
So, when I want to make a backup of MediaPortal (e.g. for transfering the installation to another computer), then I have to copy these two direcotories, right?

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ?
MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback.
If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo.
