specs in my sig, but probably notable is that the most recent nvidia 6150 (onboard) driver crashes mediaportal on launch and forces...

long story short is...if you don't do the movie scan in the database, movies or (some) will not be displayed. Once you scanned all the movies from multiple folders.. you'll be able to see them all in the filmstrip.

Well I don't think PowerDVD will play BluRay content if it isn't on an actual BluRay disk. It also doesn't play HD-DVD content without some big hacks.
Archsoft can do both of these, the plugin also appears as an enty in your main menu. One down side though is that its DVD playback quality isn't nearly as good a PowerDVD.

Is this about the autoplay function? Because if it is, you can disable autoplay in My computer > Tools > Folder Options > "File Types" tab. Here remove in the advanced section from one of the first entries (i.e. InterVideo WinDVD) the play option.

As another solution look at this post:
FIX playing DVD on external drive
create a junction on an internal drive with command:
mklink /J NewVirtualFolder f:\FolderOnExternalDrive
As result you get a folder hard linked to a folder on the external drive.
