My problem sounds very similar and I can't work it out. The failure appears to be between ampdroid and wifiremote.
As reported in the linked post, I can connect using the demo client and can also connect to the services via web browser. Have 3 different android roms now, one that is known to work
What else can I be checking?

I meant use MP client to try to spot how it's requesting streams for specific channels and then try to do the same with VLC.
TV Server development looks dead so I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out by yourself if it's even possible.
