Some recent OV changes were in the meantime pushed. I tested these in our internal test build and was able to navigate within iBBC into the lower levels and select a show from there. Playing is unfortunately not possible here since BBC applies GeoLocation and blocks me from viewing content outside of the UK.
In a nutshell: OV will be updated in the final release of MediaPortal 2.1
Note that we are in the process of fixing all the errors that users are reporting in this bug section. We will need some more weeks before being able to release the final version.

That seems to have done the trick.
Thank you so much for your help and advice, CyberSimian. I hadn't thought of deleting the various folders, but I'll bear that in mind for any future disasters. Now I can record King & Conqueror on Sunday!
