does having a much better server computer improve the channel changing times? as in a better processor, motherboard or better memory ram?

or up to a point its related with the tuner itself?

i have an amd 1400 and if i change channel using the + and - channel button in the remote, it takes less than 4 secs (not complaining at all :D)

Well a core2duo will in theory be better than a 386 etc. but i'm sure you would reach a point where a faster processor won't improve speed of the tuner itself.

thats what i want to find out, what processor will give me the best channel change performance without having to get the last quadcore.

Personally think speed is down to motherboard, how well it handles the pci\usb\firewire, after that its driver related.

From what i have read, it a very good chip, how it handles other hardware is going to make it or break it, if reviews about the x38 stability carry over into the new x48 chip, there may be problems looming.

I would definately hold off on this one, untill its well established.

good point, i have read so many divers opinions about the x48. cant decide on which motherboard to buy for a quadcore.

thanks for you opinion about it.

In reality my channel changes are just as quick as a real set top box or tv with built in tuner.

Can you please post your config (Card/Motherboard/CPU/etc). Maybe we can learn from you. :)
Because my changing times are way higher then my settopbox (Card = Technotrend C1500 / Settopbox = Samsung DCB360).

    Sure:

My server is a dell xps 210 with a core2duo 1.86ghz cpu with 2gig of ram. I have an avermedia pci-e DVB-T card, 2x nebula digitv usb DVB-T tuners and a firedtv DVB-S tuner. I'm running RC1 with the 19376 svn. I use sql express rather than mysql and apart from changing my recording locations my tvserver settings are virtually all left as the defaults.

My clients are basically identical but obviously only running the tvserver client software rather than the tv server part. 1 client is connected to a Sony 46" LCD TV (46w3000) via a DVI connection and running in 1920x1080 and the other is connected to a Samsung 32" LCD TV (32R7something) and uses a VGA connection running at 1360x768. Both clients have an ATI x1300 graphics card with 256meg ram. I use Nvidia purecodec for mpeg2 decoding and CoreAVC for h.264 decoding and ac3filter for all audio.

I run the indigo skin on both clients, and use the latest 2.1 version of it.

Thank you for pointing out that my analysis may be less than accurate. :p Although the change to TV channel 71 may not also have been applied to the independent radio channels (different MUXes), the logs that I prepared for one of the development team does show a difference between channel 704 ("BBC Radio 4") and channel 731...
