I am no coder...I cannot really grasp how to make use of the patch referred to and the installer link is invalid.Are you saying wait until a full fix is incorporated into 1.12?

I saved a copy of fontengine.dll and then replaced it with your version (above) and then ran Mediaportal with watchdog with plugins-
MP took longer to close ( I think) but it did not crash. Please find attached the watchdog files
I shall run some opening and closing of MP this evening and see if there are any further crashes but it looks like your fix hit it first time

No further crashes and after the first reboot it is now closing swiftly without any obvious delay

maybe setting loglevel to debug might pinpoint the difference between normal and stuck?
Preferable with as much disabled as possible
also try to see if anything is happening during stuck for the mediaportal process(resource monitor, disk activity, cpu usage, anything)
