Now you must work with Girder or Evenghost to map the rest of keys (guide, recorded tv, my video, my photos, etc). For that you must have keyshorter plugin to enable keys.

Hi,

I hate to sound like a whiner but how? it really isn't obvious. I am RTFM'ing at every stage. if you want to point me to a different RTFM thats actually any good feel free... I have installed eventghost (after eventually deducing that the sourceforge release page version wasn't up to date enough) and its configuration is completely non-intuitive.

is this keyshorter plugin for mediaportal or eventghost? is that instead of or as well as the "message" plugin for mediaporta?

I started following this MediaPortalPlugin - EventGhost but at the stage where it talks about adding something to activate the macro (dragging it from the left hand column) I am lost. What comes from the left hand column? logically it must be something to do with the source of the command (i.e. the remote conrol) but there is nothing in the LH column of evenghost that in any way relates to it?

I have. 3 times.I have seen posts referring to screen shots that don't exist?

you can see from my posts in other threads, I am not doing this for laughs. I really want to get this remote to work properly and I do not understand how to do it.
many thanks for any help you are able to offer.

    Hi,

i can use Gyration for controlling everything in MP thanks to Girder and Shortcuter plugin.

    2 things miss:
    - i cannot wake up PC with power button of the remote? I have enabled S3 in bios and it worked my my previous remote based on the IR receiver from my case Origen S14V.
    - i cannot use search functionnality based on SMS mode. For 1 press on a button the remote sends 2 codes (for example if i press key A i can see the letters "é)

    Any idea?

    Thanks
    Fabien

I have a Linux version of the Gyration remote that doesn't work with Eventghost, so I'd very much like to try the Girder way instead.

I've looking in the forums on Girder's official web site but I couldn't find much Gyration related information there. I'd really like to see an example on how to do it the Girder way before I go and buy their software.

Do you happen to have any web link that describes how to configure Girder to work with the Gyration remote.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

in fact you only must enable HID plugin & keyboard through Girder options, after you just have to set one key with an event from the remote. Any guide of girder could deliver the help needed.

    Thank you!

I D/L:ed the trial version. I've found the options and plugins. It's a quite long list, but I don't find HID in the list. Keyboard is there.

Do you know if that is a limitation in the trial?

    Try this: http://www.promixis.com/download.php?ID=637

Why when i select a key in the virtual keyboard from search feature, i can see the letter "d" after.
Exemple, i select the letter "P" in the virtual keyboard, i click on OK and i see "Pd" in the search line.
I select HID general remote in MP.

    my how to

    • disable microsoft MCE. there is a good example page here
How to Disable (Uninstall and Remove) Windows Media Center in Vista My Digital Life
but I found I also had to rename the ehtray.exe and ehome.exe files in c:\windows\ehome to really stop it. To do this you have to take ownership and then take full control of the files (under windows vista with UAC).

If you don't do this, green button, tv button and guide button are going to launch MCE, like it or not.
    • add the plugin MediaPortal - Mediacenter - - Message Plugin to media portal
(put dll in relevant mediaportal directory
    • get rid of MP keyboard input plugin if you have it. for me, it conflicted.
    • Go into mediaportal 1.0 config - enable "general HID" in remote settings tab
    • Run MP and see which buttons on the remote work. you may find that some already do (cursor keys, transport buttons worked for me).
    • Download and install eventghost . you need to use a beta version from Index of /downloads. 0.3.6.1476 worked for me
    • run eventghost. delete all random stuff in the example config from right hand side, leaving just autostart
    • in EG add a plugin to autostart - select "mediaportal" - if its not there, you have wrong version of EG
    • in EG add a plugin - generic HID - select your gyration remote HID device. You will probably see many.
    • in EG keep on adding generic HID plugins until you have one for each of your gyration HID devices. I had seven.
    • in EG disable each of the many gyration device plugins
    • in EG enable one of the gyration HID device plugin. press all buttons on your remote . see which buttons are registered by this gyration device plugin - you will see an event logged on the left hand window of EG if so. If no event is registered, you can leave that gyration device permanently disabled.
    • in EG continue to work through the HID device's plugins (disable one, enable next) until you have found which you need. I needed the first and last, which registered different sets of buttons on the remote.
    • find in RH window of EG under the MP section, an item that you'd like define a remote button to use. Example - use the EPG button on the remote to launch guide in MP. drag and drop the HID button number of the button you want to use from the left hand window, onto the MP action definition for "guide" in the right hand window.
    • Green button - in EG map HID code for this to mediaportal event "start" This will go the home screen when MP is running
    • Green button - In EG add a macro "start an application" and map HID code for green button to this. point this macro to MP exe file. This will launch MP when its not running.
    • test it!
    • set EG to run at startup and save EG cfg.

other useful (don't press button by accident) - define a remote button for "forced reboot of PC" using eventghost. when MP crashes to black screen - press button!

    todo
    - Map the power button on the remote to the power menu of MP rather than just vista power command
    - a button to just force-close MP rather than force-reboot the whole box. Not found a way to do this.
(anyone found a way to do these?)

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal. Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...
