I can't imagine anyone wanting to use Apple remote in MP.
You can't simply squeeze 100 different functions into 5 buttons.
But if you are that extravagant to really want to use Apple Remote, you can use EventGhost as mentioned in post above.
Volume up/down seems to work out of the box.

I'd be more interested in using a MCE remote with the Mac Mini built-in receiver, instead of having the MCE USB receiver hanging out of the neat little box.

Is that possible, do you think?

Hey this exactly what I intend to do, please can someone answer this question?

As we know have a driver for it on XP.

Hi Guys, Can I ask you to clarify the experimental functionality in IR Suite? Will this enable me to use the MCE remote with the Mac IR revceiver?? Also - any chance this would also enable the MCE IR keyboard??

    Thanks very much.

    BKCH:

First of all let me say that I don't own a Mac Mini so my knowledge of the IR device is limited to what I've read. However, I don't believe you can use the IR receiver with other IR devices.

If the mac mini remote used the same protocol as the MCE remote then you might be able to use it, but the MCE keyboard uses a different protocol and would certainly not work with the current implementation that is included in IR Server Suite.

If someone comes up with a way to get IR Time Code data from the Mac Mini device then I would be able to add MCE remote and Keyboard support in no time at all. In fact, any device that reports or can report the IR signal as time code can have MCE remote and Keyboard support added (for example, once I get the IgorPlug support sorted out it will support the MCE remote and Keyboard).

If you do try out IR Server Suite and can't get anything out of the Mac Mini device let me know and I'll post a test app here. I'd really to get the Mac Mini support finished off (out of the "experimental" phase).

In fact I might post the test app later today anyway, cos I would like to get a list of button codes ...

    Cheers,

Hi and-81 - thanks for your post.

If you post the test app I'd be happy to run the tests and post the info you need (will be travelling until Thursday night but will be able to test then).

So - my dumb question for today - how would I go about finding out the IR Time Code for the Mac Mini?

It would be very cool to add this support for Mac - I have a couple of Mac Minis and an iMac 24" all as pure HTPCs and I gotta say they are dream hardware :)

The layout of remotes does vary from one model/brand to another. I too find that some layouts are better than others. Generally, I prefer the buttons that I use most-frequently to be positioned near the center of the remote, which is not the case with that particular Dell remote. :( Battery life is often a problem. A remote that I...

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal. Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...

I don't organise my media in the way that you do, so I don't know whether MediaPortal provides the capability that you want. All that I can suggest is that you read this page in the MP Wiki and experiment to see if it will merge the separate folders to give you a unified view of the media. -- from CyberSimian in the UK
