Does anyone know how to get a working version of MP (with out TV) on a VM? I am wanting to setup a VM so I can test some plug-in's and mods etc but when I start MP up it hangs on 'Initializing DirectX'??
VMware wont properly support DirectX acceleration - therefore you wont be able to run MP through a Virtual Machine.
I believe the newer version of VMware beta and other VM suites (like Virtualbox) have experimental support for directX, but its still too early in development to be useful.
I can confirm that MP works in a VM with VMWare Workstation 6.5, that has DirectX 9.0c support.
The only supported guest OS is Windows XP.
You must enable "Accelerated 3D Graphics" flag under Display in VM Settings.
On MP you must use EVR.
I installed the VM on 6.5 Workstation and graphics acceleration is working fine, but what is EVR?? I cannot reproduce sound inside MP but it works fine in VM windows.
EVR setting is in Mediaportal Configuration - DirectShow Filter Control - Video Render Settings. With my system VMR9 doesn't works but EVR does.
Sound works fine with default settings in MP and VM. Have you tried launching dxdiag in VM ? Under the sound tab do you see any error ?
Also TVServer works in a Workstation 6.5 VM.
The TV Card must be USB to be assigned to the VM. I tried a Pinnacle 330e with success in a Vista x32 Guest over a Vista x64 Host.
Please note the x64 -> x32 driver hop. Great work VMWare
I compliment you on the thoroughness of your investigations. (y)
Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas what the problem might be. :(
Perhaps someone else will post with some suggestions.

Would appreciate it if someone could solve (or point me in the right direction to resolve) this issue.

Can anyone tell me the step-by-step procedure for bringing up a second channel in pip mode? I can only do it sometimes, after many tries, and it’s not clear what I am doing that makes it work on those occasions when it does. Cannot find guidance on the site.
Thanks, N.
Again, if anyone knows how to do this, would be much...

Interesting. :coffee:
I always have DVB subtitles enabled in "MP Config", but I actually switch on subtitles only for those films that have deafening sound effects and music, combined with inaudible dialogue. I have never noticed the problem that you have described, but I also use the EVR renderer, and not the Madvr renderer. So...

Every so often, when I switch to a TV channel, my MP client stops accepting user inputs, either from the remote or keyboard/mouse...
@CyberSimian Sorry, I missed your last post. I ended up doing a clean install on the client and all is well now. It still doesn't let me go back in time when I change channels but it does continue operating from that point on. I'm ok with that. Thanks for your help!
EDIT: I now downgraded the server (as I did with the client above)...

When I first start watching a TV program the timeshift functions works perfectly. I can shift back and forth in time and it works...
