Looks like a genuine bug in the reservation system. My guess is something to do with recording attempting to start at the same time as scanning.

Any ideas how I stop it happening then? I only started running the scan after I had the problems. I can restart the service but I think it will come back soon, I have been having specific problems with tuning channel 9 and its associated stations, at other times recently I could tune any station except channel 9 based stations, the channel 9 stations would say no signal I think even after trying a few times (as MP sometimes requires)

No. I'm not sure of the cause so I can't be sure of the solution either. Not scanning would be one thing... not that it is a solution, but you did ask how to stop it from happening.

TV service started at 20:25 on the 21st.
Recording for "Doctor Who" started immediately. At that point all tuners were available.

Are you telling me that the problem had started sometime in that 35 second gap?
If so, I don't see any indications of this.

I'm sorry I'm not able to examine your entire set of log files in detail (they're rather long), but it looks to me like your 7162 tuners (I guess a DigitalNow dual hybrid) are not currently able to tune channel 9. I can't tell why but for all intents and purposes it looks like signal strength/quality issues. Are you sure the frequency is correct?

177500 kHz = 7
184500 kHz = SBS
191500 kHz = 9
219500 kHz = 10
226500 kHz = ABC

I know Australia uses 125 kHz offsets in some areas. Some tuners are capable of automatically scanning the offset frequencies while others are not. If the frequencies you've ended up with are the non-offset values and the 7162 tuners are not capable of automatically scanning the offsets then it might explain why the Asus tuner appears fine and the 7162 tuners are not.

Could also be the way you're splitting the signal...

That would lock up your tuners for other reasons. I see an example of it happening on the 21st. Symptoms as described here:

Doctor Who was recording when I tried to start watching another channel (channel 9 or Go probably) and it didn't work, I then wanted to see what was going on and wanted to test that the cards had not disappeared from the server and did work. I started the scan to try to fix any tuning issues regarding that card

I'm not sure I understand the offset bit, when I run the scan that should set up the card to work properly on anything it finds shouldn't it? or do I need to mess with offset frequencies manually?[DOUBLEPOST=1382429628][/DOUBLEPOST]never had tv server unkillable via task manager but frequently won't stop via services. still sounds like something I should install.

I see in the MediaPortal log that you tried to tune Go! at 16:28:10 on the 22nd, but the scan I see is from the 21st.
So what I'm saying is, those two tuners were blocked for almost a day before it seems like you noticed.
Could you please be more specific about dates and times if I'm not getting this right.

Example:

• when asked to tune frequency X, tuner A checks X kHz, X - 125 kHz, and X + 125 kHz
• when asked to tune frequency X, tuner B checks X kHz

If the broadcast frequency is X - 125 kHz or X + 125 kHz (ie. "offset") and MediaPortal tells tuner B to tune X kHz, it will fail to lock. On the other hand, tuner A will succeed because it checks the offsets.

The answer to your question is: it depends on what the person who submitted the tuning details that you're using put in the tuning detail file. If they exactly match the broadcast frequencies (as you'd hope they would) then any tuner should work without messing with anything. If the person didn't apply the offset (ie. they entered Y but the real broadcast frequency is Y + 125 kHz) then tuners that don't check offsets would fail to tune.

This is why I said are you sure the frequency is correct.

I think it is quite possible the tuner was locked for almost a day, I have on other tuner so the system was sort of functioning.
I have looked up the frequency and it is listed as 191500, so I guess I better go and manually adjust all my tuning details, I thought the auto tune would have got them right. I don't think the frequency is the problem or it would never work but its got to be a good thing to fix it properly anyway, thanks
