I don't have MP in front of me right now but this should be easy enough to get to work, you must have one of the check boxes in mp config "general" section wrong.
MP shouldnt close when going to sleep. Try checking "MP allways on top" maybe.

In the MP general screen are you in advanced? Do you have an option “restart MP on resume” ? did you check that?
Yes it is possible, if you goto s3 sleep with mediaportal running fullscreen, it should still be fullscreen when you come out of sleep.
So what exactly is your problem, describe in detail what you do, what you expect to happen, what actually happens.
