Followed your instructions and got it installed in xp. Call me lazy but I can't be bothered mapping all the buttons to MP, that's what I liked about it being MCE...... it just works!
Think I'll persevere with vista for a while.... it's growing on me..... now if I can just get it to stop dropping back to the desktop everytime I stop playing a movie I'll be happy.... but that's a different topic! lol

Does this for about 1 sec here, why.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ta

Does it close MP or simply switch focus to desctop? I would assume its a mapping issue on the remote controller play button doing more than it should be. Funny enough I am having too many issues with XP and my Lifeview TV card (freezing on reboots) that I may move to Vista anyway. The reason I didnt go to vista in the first place was that MCE did not support my laptop graphics card but seing as I am in love with MP thats not an issue.

It will be intersting to see how MP performs on Vista compared to XP too.

Does Philips USB device support wake up too?

Cheers

Hi all, hope you all having some success with the wonderful SRM 5100.

It seems there are a number of ways to get the drivers and MP to see this device but sadly most seem unstable or have odd behaviour. I have tried the following in every combination possible :- MS ehome drivers, MCE replacement drivers (number of versions), MS ehome registry hacks, MP MCE plug-in, MP MCE Server Suite, HIP manager, etc etc. Rather than list all the combinations and outcomes I figured I would state what I have finally settled on and what seems to work.

In effect I found 2 ways to get the SRM 5100 functional with MP.

1) MCE replacement drivers + HIP - the one downside with this is that MP functionality is not in context so buttons have a fixed action, the upside is that the remote can be used for anything with HIP - nice tool.

2) MCE replacement driver + MCE Server Plug-in - this works perfect (including being context based buttons within MP) but I have found that its only stable if done in this order :-

A) remove all previous IR drivers, IR inf files, ensure PC is clean
B) install MCE replacement driver (see previous posts for INF update regards SRM 5100)
C) reboot the PC and make sure its stable and new driver in USB section are working
C) install MCE Server Suite -nice tool and opens up a new world
D) install latest MP SVN update file - do this even if its already been done
E) reboot the PC
D) configure MP to use the MP client plug-in for MCE Server Suite
E) reboot the PC & test test test

Hope this helps someone - worst case the news is that it can be got working 100% on XP with MP. :D

Cheers

Hello.

I have Windows XP x64 and a problem installing the SRM5100.
I followed the instructions, installed MCE replacement drivers and edited the inf file.
I went in the device manager in the control pannel and manually installed the driver for the "unknown device" that is the IR receiver. For the driver I selected the "mceir_2003_ia64.inf"
The driver actually installs as a "MCE infrared remote control" but the driver won't start. I get the yellow esclamation mark and a message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Any ideas?

I am using a Philips SRM 5100 with the IR Server Suite and XP as well now.

It's working great - you just have to remember to check "disable automatic buttons" in the IRSS's MCE Remote config or the arrow keys won't work.

The main advantage of this remote is that you can re-learn each button from any other IR remote

    Nice one

Just let us know the simple edit :)

ok, bath time for kids so need to run........but its simply a case of using the MCE replacement drivers mentioned earlier in this thread - edit the inf file and add the Philips Device ID to it (easy to find) - then update devices driver in Device Manager and point the file location to the inf files (XP one is the one).

eg. the inf file would also have this in it :

    [Microsoft]
    %USB\VID_0471&PID_0815.DeviceDesc%=MCEIR.Dev, USB\VID_0471&PID_060D

VID_0471&PID_060D is the device ID for the Philips USB IR device

After this you have a working 'MCE Infrared Remote Control' in your USB devices.

HIP then sees it fine and tested too, first attempt at MP didnt kick in......shall play again after bath time!!

    :)

Well that seems to be fine here, XP SP2 configured as above and then using HIP to manage the remote aspect and it works fine - tetris in MP with a remote should keep the wife happy!!

Hope you guys get it working too - happy to help.

    See above, sorted :D

Worth a look too :- MCE Remote Replacement Driver FAQ

    hey, thanks for posting this

i've been trying to get this remote working with mce recently but to no avail

i get SF+ Dongle(e.d) listed in device manager, so i've downloaded the alternative drivers, added the line you suggested to mceir_xp.inf, and tried to update the driver. but when i point it to the .inf file, it says drivers for the device couldn't be found in the specified location

    any ideas?

    Microsoft IR compatibilty

I really like the look of this remote and the price is great. I am not really bothered with macros and stuff that you get with the harmony remotes and this seems more MCE orientated. My only question is I have nice Media centre case with a built in Microsoft compatible IR receiver, do you think this remote will work with this? Plus I am running MCE 2005.

If it works with my IR receiver its got to be a winner.

Many thanks for the answer. So far I've used Logitech's Harmony hub. This allows you to control all components (including the media portal). I have now contacted the Sofabaton hotline. It should also work here like with the Harmony. Unfortunately, not all of the IR codes are correct. You can also learn commands here. But that doesn't...
