Yes I'm working on this under Issue 414. The issue indicates that playing the movie is required, but as you have indicated, it also happens with visiting the Details screen and then going back. Star the google issue to be updated with progress. This one is currently giving me a bit of trouble, but I'll get it nailed down eventually 
Just out of curiosity, which view do you use? List, Thumbnails, Large Thumbnails, or Filmstrip?

I have the same issue with Filmstrip view.

maybe setting loglevel to debug might pinpoint the difference between normal and stuck?
Preferable with as much disabled as possible
also try to see if anything is happening during stuck for the mediaportal process(resource monitor, disk activity, cpu usage, anything)

Since over a year my MP sometimes stucks while showing the welcome screen. It started once a week now it happens every second time...

There are 2 x files in the folder......one is x86, and other is x64
