2.0 is a fantastic milestone for the XBMC project. They've really done something remarkable. A true Killer App.

I run two modded Xbox's for the sole purpose of running XBMC. It's had a huge impact on the way I use my television, I use XBMC almost every single day.

    Congratulations.

Excellent news for the XBMC community! I've not used XBMC (I came direct to MP), but having had a quick browse round the XBMC site, it looks a very interesting tool, with a lot more inbuilt functionality and potential than most of the "bespoke" hardware media player devices.

One thing I couldn't get my head round with it - is XBMC going to be suitable to use as a client for the new TV Engine 3.0? If so, then I can see a lot of modded Xboxes heading my way - potentially a lot cheaper than sticking a number of MP clients around the house, and probably easier to support...

Cheers for any guidance anyone can offer

XBMC would be suitable for TV Engine 3.0 client however only for SD and not HD content.

Also the TV server appears to use .Net Remoting which would not be supported by the XBOX to my knowledge, meaning we would have to employ some sort of proxy plugin to marshal commands between the xbox and the TV server.

PS Well done to XBMC for a great stable product

Yes the Xbox 733Mhz CPU has some problems decoding true 720p video (and 1080i is impossible).

Maybe we could get HRHD (Half Resolution High Definition) recording/streaming at 960x540 resolution MPEG-2 (MPEG-TS) in MediaPortal?, as the Xbox hardware should be able to decode that and upconvert it to a 720p display via the GPU without dropping any frames (possible even be able to upconvert it to 1080i in most cases) :D

Thanks... So annoying. I didn't notice it had stopped working and missed some recordings. The version number still seems to be 1.7.2. Hard to tell that the file has been updated. Sigh. I stream a lot of it now anyway. Good question on mc2xml.exe & schedulesdirect. I donated many, many moons ago for schedulesdirect support. I...

I do not know why this xml was in my theme folders, it must have sneaked in some time ago (years?). I simply removed the file. The Latest Media Handler plugin seems to be working as expected. I've had no lock-ups.

The only configuration that is certain to work is when the MP client and MP server are from the same release. It is sometimes possible to use MP clients from a release that is different to the MP server, but whether it works depends on the specific changes that were made between the two releases. -- from CyberSimian in the UK

Thank you for pointing out that my analysis may be less than accurate. :p Although the change to TV channel 71 may not also have been applied to the independent radio channels (different MUXes), the logs that I prepared for one of the development team does show a difference between channel 704 ("BBC Radio 4") and channel 731...
