What are the restrictions with staying with the current version of Skype?

Do not think that all this mass of current customers will be left apart. Just sit and wait.

Anyway what about robbo100 question - what restrictions would be? Some was mentioned about just audio? Then of course it is too much to loose.

If MS decides to change the smallest thing in the Skype protocol - you cannot use an older version anymore. I don't know anyone who wants to invest that much time to implement something that might only work if some bigger company decides to play nice

You are very right offbyone. That is why could be more interesting to think about other game players. This plugin could in the future integrate several protocols for IM and video conversations. For sure I feel that lot of us use Skype more recently, but I think that on solutions TV it is not very tight connect to habits we have on desktop. I would really like to have some Google Hangout or Facebook chat that could take part at my living room. I think that everyone that use skype on HTPC will be forced to have at least different account then on desktop.

I have recently checked Google API for Audio/Video chats, but there's no .Net API that would help us integrate it

What about p2p chat? I have code I was going convert to mp but really didn't have time to do it. I can pass it on to anyone that's wants to try it. Video over home network is working no sound yet. And of course I was thinking for friends without mp could use a stand alone app.

Maybe the Skype Integration in Outlook.com could be an Option. http://www.skype.com/en/offers/skype-outlook-integration/

I'm not a developer or skinner,
perhaps a MP plugin that communicate through the Outlook.com api together with the skype Integration in Outlook could be a way.
