Thumbnail generation - design problem: thumbnails are almost same and not very informative. (2 Viewers)

I would like to see the time length for each movie in my folder, if that is possible.

In DB view, this is possible just like it is in TvSeries, MyFilms, MovingPictures, because during the import that mediainfo is fetched _once_ and stored in the DB.

In FolderView - well. Maybe this could be done when creating the thumb -grab mediainfo- and stored in the VideoDB. Because if that mediainfo would get created everytime you enter a folder, then this would generate a lot of load and I think also reduce the responsiveness of MP.
So for folderview it is not "that" easy - but a dev please correct me if i am wrong.

I was under impression that MP can't really detect the time length of ANY movie.

If that would be true, then you would not see the total length of the video in the video OSD either.
The video has to be opened to extract the thumbs - so getting the total playtime is technically surely possible too.

Just needs a dev to figure it out.

I will try to check the video length with ffmpeg -i and grab the duration info. If it works I will provide a new version.

I also tried your V2 patch with strings_en.xml but the new menu item "refresh video thumbnail" never shows up.

I just see this build contains my another modification. I have to separate they but you can test it.

Overwrite the strings_en.xml

1. Go to a video file
2. Press F9 or use the remote
3. Select refresh video thumbnail
4. The MP will generate a random number from 10 to 300 sec and increase it with pre-record value.
5. If still you don't like it repeate from 1.

I need some help here, please. My thumbnails are generated in the video folders regardless of the settings, and the thumbnails in the database are always 1 row by 1 column regardless of the settings. Could anybody confirm?

i didn't look log but thumbnail can be generated in video folders, if you use this recording folder from MyVideo for example

This should only be true if 'Leave a thumb in video folder' is ticked. I don't have this ticked, but video thumbs are generated in the video folder.

I normally have to delete the thumbs from the video folder manually and then it will work as it is supposed to using the thumbnails from the thumbnail directory.

It looks like Markus confirms similar behavior which looks like a bug to me. May I ask other people who read this thread to check if video thumbs are re-generated in the video folder if 'Leave a thumb in video folder' is NOT ticked.

The new generated thumbnail (the fast method let .jpg in folder because the files is needed) so that method is used for MyPictures only (normally it should) for video thumbnail, it should not happen.

Can you describe step by step how you generate thumb ?

The setup I have is as follows. I normally watch my video camera videos from My pictures due to the thumbnails in Titan having the incorrect thumbnail preview window size template.

1) I have a folder called "Photo and Videos" listed in the Video folders. Thumbs set to yes.
2) In GUI Thumbnails config. 'Leave a thumb in the video folder' not ticked.
3) The same folder "Photo and Videos" I have listed as also a Picture folder.
4) Enable playing videos files made with your camera ticked.
4) On the first time video thumbnails are generated they are saved in the folder as well as the video/thumbs folder.

After the thumbs are generated I delete the video thumbs out of the folder. After doing this I can still see thumbs on the videos in mypictures as they are now coming from the video/thumbs folder.

I also have a movies folder listed in Video Folders but have thumbs turned off for this one as I use a IMDB database for this folder.

Very simple. My video files are located in d:\Data\My Videos\ folder and a bunch of subfolders, for example, d:\Data\My Videos\Sport\. "Create thumbs" is ticked for d:\Data\My Videos\ in Videos, Video folders. "Leave a thumb in video folder" is NOT ticked in GUI section. But I am still getting thumbnails jpeg files generated in d:\Data\My Videos\Sport\ for each particular video file located in that folder.
