There is no really easy way to tell if skins will be updated in the future. You'll just have to go for one of the newest skins submitted, and see if like it. If you don't like any of the new ones: Come back to check for new skins every 3 months or so.
Submitters might suddenly stop updating their skins/plugins because they just don't feel like updating any more. However, you could send a message to the creater of your favourite skin, and ask him if he's going to update the skin any time soon. He'll notice his skin is still wanted if enough people contact him and it might encourage him to keep developing it. And another option: update the skin yourself if you have the knowledge.
TV Server plugins are listed on this page, and "EPG Cleaner" can be downloaded from this page.
Note: I don't know what bitness the plugin has. It might be 32-bit, or it might be "any cpu". The plugin is not listed by the "MP Extensions" tool, so I don't know whether it has been tested with the most-recent MP releases.

It seems our Zap2XML/GraceNote access is broken again. I (as many others) have been using the latest NewZap2xml_6 and it has worked flawlessly. A few days ago it all died. I wonder if anyone is working a solution to save the masses. I am hoping the good citizen of past is...

I don't know about MP2 but as you said you tried MP1 too, how is the MP music config ?
MP(1) will only use LAV if you select "Internal DirectShow player" as music output, but then you lose gapless playback.
If you you don't have multichannel music you can choose WASAPI as the output and set the number of speakers to stereo.
I have...
