ugh. different codec combinations go from "no sync problems but stutter or picture breakup every few seconds/minutes" to "stutter free video but audio slowly going in and out of sync randomly between in sync and about a second ahead of the video".

So it must be the ati card/ati driver or the SS2 driver, right? Would be nice if I could get this working because I want to add DVR-MS support to StaxRip, maybe somebody can send me a sample clip and a cli demuxer if I can't get this working. I got MCE but won't install until I buy new hardware.

Do you have a VIA chipset? VIA has a documented bug that causes sound to be out of sync with the video , and this bug shows up in other programs such as flash videos, avis, etc. There is supposed to be a patch to fix this, but I've never been able to locate it.

I don't know what you call it in ATI drivers, but with Nvidia you have a lot of options for displaying video content and if you choose the wrong settings you get this effect.
This explains why using the old drivers fixed your problem. They don't have any of these advanced features.

Another question: is there a possibility do to a "custom" pan scan like BsPlayer does? That way it's possible to zoom in on WideScreen movies so they are 16:9. With mediaportal, pan scan zooms in at 4:3 and that's a little too much zoom for me... ;)

The "no signal" is a bug, and the only support I can give: Use a non buggy version. And that is 0.1.3 with CVS 08-26-2005. :)

I've got an mpeg file that was taken from an SVCD. It plays fine in winDVD 6 but won't play at all in mediaplayer 10 (Just hangs)...
I think I used NVidias video decoder and DVD navigator. AC3 audio decoder.
I have not tried DVD playing anymore, I like my stand alone DVD player, and use MP mostly for TV and recording.
