I had the same problem with MCE 2005. No sound during live tv but the sound worked fine during playback of recorded programs and dvd's etc. I narrowed down the problem to AC3 filter. Oke already found out what the problem was
Seems that the music codec settings have to be set to AC3 after I've changed these settings everything seemed to work.
Now something else is it posible to control the rear,front, center and LFE in mediaportal because now I've the close down media portal to do it

Absolute minimum I suppose, switch the gf4mx for a 5200 and get another 256mb of ram (another 512mb would be better).
Providing that capture card is hardware (cant find a thing about it), it should work acceptably. Obviously the cpu being too slow, timeshifting may not work but it should pass otherwise.

well i figured out what the problem is. its a combination of two things. vmr9 with rgb output. rgb out gives me the flash everytime. if i switch to overlay the flash does not occur.

hm... after switching back to my rc1 image I had a little time this weekend, to try out rc2 again. The problem still remains.... I tried several codes, but always the same proplem. I simply get no TV signal at all... (Teletext works fine for the P100 page though).

I sometimes also have this problem but I haven't gotten my install polished up for production yet and haven't thought much about it.
Anyhow, for me, I open the task manager and look for the mediaportal.exe process after a crash and kill the process. I can then start up media portal as per normal again.

Today I uninstalled MP and deleted the entire MediaPortal folder. After a complete reinstall the problem is gone, I can now play dvr-ms files. I only had the time to try the default settings (I think it's the Mpeg2Dec codec?) on one recorded file but that works fine. Unfortunatly I have to redo all my settings now, though.
