General questions about HTPC Hardware go in here.
Well, no worries on the aerials as there will always be an external one :D. It's the lack of any inputs other than RF + lack of remote on the HVR900 made me reconsider purchasing it(I almost confirmed an order an amazon before I posted here). CPU wise, if the laptop can't handle it (it should be able to), well, I'll use it on...

MP1 MP2 ATI or nVidia? DE
I had a Nvidia 7600 which was fine, picture was very impressive after having used a FX5200 before. I switched to a ATI X1600, because of the Nvidia not working in POST/BIOS on my Plasma. For my opinion the video quality is much worse! The picture does not look as crisp and sharp as with the Purevideo of Nvidia. I installed...

Yep. MediaPortal used VMR9 - which uses DirectX instead of overlays to output your video content. The benefit to this is that VMR9 actually displays your video on a 2 dimensional plane using the 3D renderer. this means that any effects or changes you want to perform to the video are actually carried out by your videocard, and not your...

Well I dont have a DVB card in my games machine but recorded mpeg2 HD is fine, its just any other format 1080i clip that wont work well. Eg. the QT HD format, I can barely run 720p, 1080p is maybe 5fps @ 100% cpu usage. Do you know that Ten is 1080i? Thought it would most likely be 720p... Anyway, the actual MP box is only a 1.8ghz...

Hi!§ The 6150 is the best mobo with onboard gfx - many perfer using nVidia Purevideo-decoders; this makes this mobo an even better choice. thanks for the great replies. I will consider 1 gb of ram, i wasn't sure about how much the shared onboard video would bog down the system. Re: PVR-150 vs PVR-250 Actually going to the 250 from the 150 would be a jump down. The 250 was the original version from Hauppauge, and the 150 is a revised version with a newer hardware encoder and DAC. As for your Celeron, it should be more than fine. Even if you were to get a software encoding card, depending on the cards...
