Get a 6600 or 6600GT (passive cooled) and take advantage of all PureVideo features. Lower cards do not support all of those features which are quite handy when running MediaPortal... Noticable better quality for TV and video/DVD playback. (PCIe suggested)

Hi, I use Twinhan CI-TER(PCI) and FloppyDTV-T(Firewire) to watch the Boxer broadcasts using Mediaportal. These cards can be bought from Datorbutiken, Mycom, Webhallen etc etc. I prefer the FloppyDTV-T card but it's a bit expensive. These cards are one of the few that works for scrambled channels. If you want to watch scrambled...

This is a good advice. I belive you should look for the ASUS mobo... you will have to buy a bracket for TV-out also. The Maxtor is is probably the HDD that produces most heat. I'd go for Seagates 7200.9 160GB -> only one platter. Memory should also be PC3200.

Thanks. It looks like that with a home-built HTPC, you have to sacrifice Dolby Digital surround, at least for TV watching. Is this correct? My big worry is the remote control issue. Since I have a Harmony remote, I can go to the Logitech website & pick a device, like an MCE remote. Does negate the need for me to have to mess...

In America, digital is ATSC. Your choices are AverMedia A180 Vbox DTA-150 Fusion 5 (Gold or Lite) ATi HD Wonder I use a DTA-150 and a Fusion 5 Lite. The Fusion 5 has an Analog NTSC tuner on it (I think), but it does not yet work in MP. For digital and analog reception I would suggest 2 cards, 1 for analog, 1 for ATSC...

I am thinking about getting a REALmagic Xcard. Is anyone using one of these? If so, do you need to convert from the dvr-ms format? I understand that the dvr-ms file is just a mpeg2 format with MS wrapper, but I dont know if Xcard driver/codec has issues with it. And the biggest question would be how well does it work with MP...

Hi, I am not using my Epia-M for HTPC anymore because it died some times ago. ;) The problem is not the CPU power of the board. DVB and H/W encoding cards work ok. Video playback is more or less ok (see the BUT). BUT: The onBoard graphics (UniChrome S3) simply spoken is crap! It has no DX9 support nor good VMR9 support. The...

My first card was the aver 771. This was supposed to be supported as Aver had said tehy were making BDA drivers available. Then it was decided to hold off these drivers so people would have to buy the 777. Dman and a few others made a lot of effort to get it working, but with no luck. Aver were extremely unhelpful. as far as I...

If you have an X1000 series card and want to check out the accellerated video conversion give it a try. The support website is pretty busy at the moment because of all the downloads.

S/PDIF boards usuallly aren't cheap. Most are priced at about $25 and anything I've seen cheaper is rarely in stock. That's half the price of my motherboard that needs one and why I chose a board that has it built in for my HTPC. I think the boards cost the companies about $5 to build so it's kind of a ripoff but what can you do...
