When ever I start media-portal it just sais "Media portal has encountered a problem and must close" and "you may have lost...
I use 2 different solutions at the moment.
The MP server sits in the basement with one screen going to the kitchen on vga and one screen going to the sitting room on s-video (MP runs great over tv out).

Thanks for the advice. I think DVD playback is fine (I can't check now, I'm at work doing a 24 hour shift :( ).
