mmm.

Tried playing around with the settings but ABC really doesn't like this new format. It accepts SBS but for some reason doesn't like the ABC. Anyone else with similar problems?

OK, now its not working at all.
This is what I get:

Code:
Welcome...

This grabber...

D1XMLTVGrabber...

Downloading...
Provider: Free
Error: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occured on a receive.

Can anyone else confirm this? Sam, do you have any ideas on what is happening?

Yep, since late last week the D1 XMLTV web service has been inaccessible. That's why you get that "underlying connection has been closed" message. I don't know what D1 are doing, the mythtv people are wondering as well (D1 has previously authorised mythtv people that they can use the service as a form of payment for using their open-source software for commercial purposes).

Thanks for the tip though PJ, I wonder if my grabber works now... If not, I'll have to have a look around in the code, but I don't see why not, unless D1 turned off the 'web service description file' so my program doesn't what to call for what.

I've heard a few rumours that the D1 htpc's aren't really selling all that well, maybe the guide licence fee's are eating away at their profits, or making up too much of there operating costs.

I guess we'll all just have to wait and see. There was a similar C# app that was discontinued a while ago (month, maybe more) because D1 contacted the author and asked him to stop using the web service (I think).

FYI, I noticed someone on the DVBowners forum (I think) that had written a similar one in Java. Popular thing to do.

Sam, have you had a chance to have a look at what's wrong? My HTPC is not much use without an EPG

Guys, from what I've been reading over at the mythtv mailing list, D1 has been switching content providers recently so they are in a bit of a limbo at the moment. However, it also seems that D1 seems to be being a bit more restrictive about how their data is used. I will try to fix my grabber after my exams (after 26th Nov) but I think in the long run, it would be better if I switched the code over to the oztivo tv-guide data.

The oztivo guide-data is maintained by users - this is how they get and check most of their data. There is a pretty large tivo community (500+) so there's quite a force behind providing the data. They have tried to obtain the data from content providers (HWW and ebroadcast) but to no avail, so they are resorting to a user-enters system. They seem happy for others to use their guide-data, as long as users are happy to contribute something back, in the form or checking data and entering in new data. Their data is not as complete, however, it is really the only viable source right now.

For those who are interested in the debate, you can check out these mythtv threads:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lis...sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;list=mythtv
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lis...sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;list=mythtv

For those who are not as technically knowledgable, keep in mind that mythtv is a PVR similar to MP but is for the Linux operating system. Therefore, unless you are familiar with perl on windows, you cannot use the alternative grabbers that they have developed over there.

Also, for those who are interested in the original debate over at oztivo, check out http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/Main and do a search on their mailing list for HWW or 'tv guide data'.

So, until after the 26th Nov at least, you guys will have to go back to the good old days where we didn't have tv guides on out TVs ;-)

Yeah, I've mentioned this before. I think this is probably the way to go. Seems the most legitimate and we could help them. Hopefully if we are all rallying behind one method then the HWW people might think about selling it to individuals. If you were able to convert their output then we could probably incorporate it into MP itself like other countries.

Nooooooooooo. Time to dig out my old HarvestTV script and see if still works.

Finally, just to say thank you Sam for all your hard work. We all really appreciate it.

Anyone tried this one. How well does it work?

http://www.tvxb.com/index.htm

Played with it a few months ago but forgot all about it. Seems like its still quite active. It uses old-fashioned "scrapping" but might keep us going until D1 is back up (or the tivo option works).

Looks to support a lot of countries:
Asia-Pacific - Star World, and other Asia-wide satellite channels
Australia - Free-to-air, Foxtel and Optus listings
Croatia - Small number of local and satellite channels
Cyprus - RK1, RK2 and SAT1
Czech republic - Local and regional channels
Denmark - Local, Nordic, European and English language channels (Description detail and feed reliability improved)
Estonia - Local, Finnish and some satellite channels
Finland - Suomi and Svenska listings
France - TéléCinéObs listings. (Not an ideal source - must download 8 pages channel/day)
Greece - NOVA and Pathfinder listings (Full descriptions now available.)
Greenland - KNR channel in Dansk and Kalaalli
Hong Kong - Free-to-air (eng language), iCable, Star World
Hungary - Local and satellite channels
Iceland - Ríkisútvarpið channels
Ireland - Local, UK, and satellite channels
Israel - Local and satellite channels (Full descriptions now available.)
Latvia - Local and a small selection of satellite channels
Malaysia - Astro DTH satellite system (The listing URLs changed. Need to use the new .ini file. 3/11/2004)
Netherlands - TVgids listings for numerous channels (Full descriptions now available.)
New Zealand - Free-to-air and Saturn listings (Not an ideal source - listings sometime inaccurate)
Norway - Listings from Dagenstv and Guiden sites as well as NRK
Philippines - Destiny, Home and Skycable listings for Metro Manila, plus local
Poland - Small number of local channels: TVP1, TVP2, TVP3, TV Polonia
Portugal - All channels from TV Cabo
Singapore - StarHub and some local channels (CH U, CH i Suria CH5 recently added)
Slovakia - 37 local, regional and satellite channels (Newly supported country. Feed seems reliable so far.)
Sweden - SVT and cable/satellite channels
UK - BBC, ITV, Sky and regional listings. Telewest standard package and Freeview package.
Misc - The following country listings are either still being tested or incomplete
Belgium - Skynet listings in French and Dutch, however feed is not reliable
Latin America - Small selection of satellite channels

I also have never used a set-top box with MP, but I think that you need to use an IR emitter (aka "IR blaster"). The IRSS software controls the emitter, and transmits IR signals under the direction of MP. The IR signal is received by the IR receiver within the set-top box, and so can be used to change channel and so on. The set-top...
