PowerDVD 8 H264 Codec & mkv (1 Viewer)

How could i play mkv files wiht the powerdvd 8 codec?
Or which codec do i need to use?

you need to install Haali media splitter , to be able to play mkvs with PDVD codec

Thanks, i've installed the media splitter and the file is playing BUT i have a black screen

Same problem here! So ended up setting the Movies codec to ffdshow. If you get PDVD working with mkv (and no black screen) let me know!

my understanding is powerdvd will NOT play.mkv files. period.

The program POWER DVD does not play mkv file, but the codec should play mkv files.

For some MKVs the screen will remain black as long as you use HW ACC and the MKV is higher then 4.1 profile.
Today most MKVs wont use this profile, but specialy older one use e.g. 5.1 and cant use HW ACC.

Give CoreAVC a try and enjoy your MKVs.

With DIVX 7 MKV Files plays fine and DIVX is free

Hi

I have same problem, with Haali media splitter pdvd8 ultra can only decode some mkv and not others.

My solution was to download MPCVideoDec.ax (MPC-HC standalone video filter), copy it to system32, click start->run type regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpcvideodec.ax

I find if one filter doesn't work the other takes over. You could try this simple fix, because it is very easy to remove the filter

To remove click start -> run -> type regsv32 /u c:\windows\system32\mpcvideodec.ax to undo changes if you don't want the codec anymore.

NOTE - you will not be able to open mkv directly with the cyberlink player software.
