The more controls the slower it becomes, if its too slow you can reduce the number of menu items/options using the editor to get some more speed. If your system is just too slow, then consider using Standard Home instead as that's ultra fast.
My basic menu is six items/options and system Core2 duo 2x3Ghz/Ram 4GB, "then consider using Standard Home instead as that's ultra fast." no thanks BasicHome menu is beautiful.
CPU possibly but the real problem is the complexity of BasicHome.xml and a very rough count there are 364 controls in Basichome (excluding the controls in inport files) against 21 in myhome.xml. The delay is caused by all these controls being read and processed.
The better we make basichome the more complex and hence the more controls are used and the slower it will load.
There have been internal discussions about creating a dedicated menu plugin and with some of the current additions, requests and reports of slowness it looks like this is the way to go, will also allow us to more with the menu.
Don't expect it soon, will more 2/3 releases time at a guess.
Ok, we discovered that the reason why its so slow to return to BasicHome is because of the fullscreen backdrops...the more items you have the more backdrops you most likely have that needs to be loaded.
In MediaPortal 1.2 Beta (which is not yet released), there is a new skin enhancement to selectivily cache images used by skin which are typically ignored by the skin cache (ie the ones we use from the Media\Animation folder).
Im happy to say the result is instantaneous BasicHome load speeds from plugins and vice versa....so if you have a slow system or even fast one, sit tight for MP 1.2 Beta and compatible StreamedMP release.
Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal.
Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...

First thing to say is that I use MP1, whereas I believe that you use MP2. @ge2301 has just posted that MP2 has a "folder view" in addition to the "library view", so you should be able to set up your system as I describe below, but the details will differ.
In MP1, the folders that are to appear on the "Videos" panel are defined in "MP...

Hi @Greenhorn7, to help narrow this down a bit, I suspect that when the recordings menu entry is missing you are probably also missing menu entries for Videos, Movies, Series and Images too. Can you confirm? Does simply navigating to a different screen then back to home again cause the recordings menu item to show up?
Those menu...
