SUGGESTION BOX: Additions for the Rename database system (4 Viewers)

Are there any "rules" around the naming schemes? I've noticed that some times the original is marked "(Original)", other time it is not marked with "(Original)", but the remake is marked with "(Remake)" instead, and other times both are marked. If there aren't any rules, could we please make some so that we have a standard naming method?

Option 1:
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Original)
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Remake)

Option 2:
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Original)
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Option 3:

I tend to go by IMDb popularity. Sometimes the 'original' should not have been redone, or is still fresh in memory for majority of users, other times majority of IMDb+ users might not even be aware that the 'new' movie is a 'remake'.

So the 'rules' that I go by is that the movie most users will have will be named "title", that means a movie made before that one will be marked (Original), and a movie after it (Remake) or (Reboot). The idea is to cause the least amount of changes as well, so when a movie was already added to IMDb+ and a new adaption is released, I prefer not to adjust the existing one to "(Original)", because not many IMDb+ users might be inclined to refresh their collection.

At the same time it is getting harder to create a cut off line on age between movies. For me the saying "take the red pill or the blue pill" instantly has meaning, but I sometimes talk to youngsters who go "wha?" as they weren't even born when the Matrix movies were released 15 years ago. Now I hope that they will not remake that movie, and instead focus on original content, but the way Hollywood goes sometimes you never know

PS: Keep in mind that you can always adjust the way things are done via the custom rename dbase. No matter what I put in the default one, somebody is going to have a different opinion on it. This started out as a way for me to get my own collection the way I like it, and I did not mind the large expansion to add in suggestions made by others, but in the end it is still my own collection I care for

PPS: Now that I'm on MePo 1.8 finally I have been able to replicate the annoying special edition rename bug that seems to have crept into new MovPic revision, so need to pin that bug down and find a solution, or have the MovPic developers re-examine their changes.

Some more additions and one suggested change to Anchorman serie:

There are a 3 that weren't straight forward to organize, but here is my reasoning:

Wak up Ron Burgundy.
The description on IMDB has it as "This "alternate film" companion to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) was compiled from dropped sub-plots and alternate takes." It is still a full length feature, so I added it as Anchorman I (Alternate) and sortby= Anchorman 02, and moved Anchorman II to sortby= Anchorman 03.

Sleepaway Camp:
Chronologically Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor was released after Sleepaway Camp: Return to Camp, but "The Survivor" is actually named "Sleepaway Camp IV", looking at the infor for the movie it also seems to have strong ties to the original, both through characters as well as the use of archive footage from the original triology, so I addeded that as IV, and "Return to Camp" as (Reboot).

The Gamers:
"Dorkness Rising" is called a spin-off by IMDB, but with the same writer/director I chose to add them as The Gamers I, II and III.

No problem. I am already adding them to my own custom list. Doing some cleaning in my collection so keep coming across new stuff to add, so just sharing it here. I discovered some errors (like forgetting to change some IMDBIDs when creating new groups), but I think I have most of it sorted out now.

First Class II is missing the "sortyby" part.

To keep the rename dbase as small as possible, I made IMDb+ scraper-script as smart as possible. Meaning that when Roman numerals exist on the title, the sortby will copy it (only need to modify it into numbers when series has more then 8 movies, because "IX" screws up sort order, which is what lead to the "X09" postfix, to make sure it sorted after "VIII"). When 2nd movie was actually released; I forgot to add "I" to the title of the first one and remove the sortby for it.

However what I have on my ToDo list is to learn from my apprentice and copy what Merlyn did for FilmInfo+, meaning I just make IMDb+ smart enough to add "01" at the end of every title (even non series), so that I never have to deal with that mess again of some movie turning into a series afterwards and you have to refresh that 1st one you already imported to get the sort order fixed. I am pretty good to stay ahead of the curve though on famous shows, which is why X-Men: First Class had that sortby added to make sure it would sort before 2nd one. Did that before it was in theaters as I knew in advance 2nd one was already approved by the studios. Some movies not due till 2016 are for that reason already in the rename dbase as well. It is just a lot of added work that the auto "01" addition would fix. Of course the IMDb+ own article remove system is really needed then, which is why it has not happened yet. This is because it requires an update to the IMDb+ plugin to make that work, and finding free time for that has been my archilles heel for little over 2 years now due to my new new job.

It's my own fault as well, I keep getting swept away on other little personal projects, which currently consists of full blown HomeAutomation via Z-Wave. I suffer badly from the "Ohhh, shiny new toy!" syndrome, or to keep it movie related "Squirrel!" (from Up). But I did make myself a promise to have it done before or during the Christmas break. Last year that did not work out so well with me getting very sick, and then suffering a big personal tragedy, so IMDb+ will be a nice break this time to not dwell on that.
