AW: Re: The Future of MyFilms?

@Guzzi - personally I think it should be functional even if a default view is used, but I don't know if you can do that or not.

... the problem is: If you have been e.g. in countryview on XYZ, but your defaultview is list by years, it doestn't make sense to go back to last selected item. Same if you had a viewfilter active - it only makes sense, if you also keep track of all former viewsettings and do NOT alter those when reentering plugin...

Yep you're right. If you are not in default view, but you have a default view set, then it is logical to return to the default view.

But I still don't see why it cannot retain the last focused item on the default view even if you have "Display Always that view when using this config" set. If you use a default view, then hit the home key and then return to MyFilms, sure, it displays the default view, but why does it reset the focus to the first item?

    AW: The Future of MyFilms?

Now it works perfectly! Plugin finds last viewed item both in filmstrip - or any - view and details on re-entering. :D

Ok, so I have also made some tests, to get todays behavious and disabled "always use defaultview" to see, how todays persistence is working (cause there IS already a IndexItem stored when leaving the plugin) - and I can also confirm, everthing works as intended - if I leave the plugin with "home" and reenter it, I always get back to the place AND the movie, where I had been before. It even goes directly into Detailscreen, if this is where you left.
So it seems, Zebons has already implemented this.

Only case, where it does NOT return to last position is, when using a defaultview - which is understandable, because it will usually be a different view than the one from which you left and thus the remembered Selecteditem is not valid.

So imho all works, as it should - for users preferring the plugin to remember last state, disable defaultview, for users preferring to get a wellknown startview (as Jean-Marc) you can let MyFilms forget last position and start with defaultview.

If you want to return to your last position "in the defaultview", you should disable defaultview and setup MyFIlms to this intended view - then again it will remember last position.

btw - this behaviour is even documented in the tooltip in the configuration - found it because i wanted to add some notes there ;-)

    Guzzi

Edit: Ok, so I added a label in the configscreen to make it more clear to the user (in trunk for future release)

You lost me there :p why would it be a different view than the one you left? I always use my custom defaultview Unwatched. So it is the view from which I left and to which I wish to return.

If you want to return to your last position "in the defaultview", you should disable defaultview and setup MyFIlms to this intended view - then again it will remember last position.
    Not once you reload MP!

Yeah, always hard to display that balloon tip as you have to hover in just the right position (i.e. on the Title Default view) :D

Edit: Ok, so I added a label in the configscreen to make it more clear to the user (in trunk for future release)
Thanks. I hope I have not given the impression I consider this a critical issue! :p I have been happily using MyFilms for years. It's just that if we can have a consistent UI in MediaPortal then why not? But I do not wish to cause you any extra work or grief, I already appreciate your efforts so much!

... because you can't be sure, if the user always stayed in the initial view - if you changed layout, it doestn't match the defaultview anymore and thus stored position also doesn't...

Ok, that's right - but also applies to all other "returningfeatures" of mepo, right?

No problem, just trying to make things right ;-) ...
I suggest NOT to change this - as I think, Zebons intension with "default view" was to give users (as Jean-Marc asked for) a deterministic standardview for the start. For all people that prefer MePos defaultbehaviour, they should disable that option.

What we could do is to make this option available as a new toggle switch inside the GUI - thus the user can change the bevaviour during runtime without need to go to setup...
btw - while testing i found (and fixed9 a bug in the DB-config - now it can also store last dB-config, so if disabling defaultview And defaultDBconfig, reentering the plugin brings you to the right place (DB and view/selection) where you left ....

yes, you perfectly understood, this is what I want!

As we are speaking about default view, I have chosen "category" and "filmsrip" as start view in MePo MyFilms configuration.
When I leave the configuration and re enter immediatly into it (without launching Mediaportal) the "category" is saved but "filmstrip" moved to "list".
The strange thing is that inside MePo, my start view is (category / genre) as a list ,and clicking on one of the "genre" list, the films are in filmstrip view. This is perfect, as I want! BUT sometimes, leaving MP and coming back, everything is "list" (categories and films).

I have the same problem with "mymusic" : impossible to save the "sort by" configuration (I select "artists" and automatically this choice comes back to "name". Strange...(Of course I save my configurations, clicking on the save button, then on the ok button)

    Hi jean-Marc,
I couldn't reproduce this problem - the described scenario works as expected - Configuration shows the previously saved settings (and they're used when going in the GUI as you described).
So could you describe the exact steps to reproduce, when you "loose" the settings?

Ok, so here are the steps:

    1) Open MP configuration
    2) Go to plugin "myfilms / configuration"
    3) Select tab "Optional 1"
    4) In "Default view" select "Category" and in "Layout" select " Filmstrip" and in "sort" select "none"
Also tick "Display always that view with this config"

NB: Default config is ticked on the top of this configuration page

    5) click "save"
    6) click "quit"
    7) Then click "ok" on the main MP configuration when "myfilms" page has closed

    8) Now repeat steps 1 to 3 and you will see that "Layout" now shows " List" and not "filmstrip" as selected and saved...

Well I am still using MP 1.1.0 and your very last version of "myfilms"

    hi jean-marc,

i still can't reproduce it - doing your steps shows the stored config for me also after reentering the configuration.
can you please verify, that your mesfilms.dll in mediaportal/plugins/windows is dated 14.10.2010 06:40 ? Maybe the file was locked when you tried updating?

Fixed, I think. Certainly the vintage MP2 installer that I was using no longer installs the LAV filters. I can only assume that these were never part of the install package itself, but rather downloaded during the install, and that link no longer exists. Shame that the installer doesn't indicate this. Last time when I installed the...
