Thanks for helping out AKALuke. Seems like the problem was that I was missing the WDM tuner driver as it wasn't installed by windows' hardware wizard. I just needed to install the whole package. It's now fixed.

Yes do not know why some people benefit by using exclusive directX mode, the only reason can think of is there graphics card, is really not up to the job. Would not recommend any graphics card that does not FULLY support DX9.

The reason channel changing & scanning are slow is the not so hot BDA driver implementation (BTW: I find 1.032 beta drivers better than 1.036). The DigiTV app uses different drivers which are much better.
I am seriously considering getting rid of my Nebula & getting an MCE certified TVcard/TVstick because of this.
