I will give my spec later when I'm at home. I know what you mean graemef, but I was hoping the TV card would work without having to be the exclusive use for the PC. It is a very recent installation, and I do keep my installed programs minimised. Just the one game I am playing at the moment, office, one video editing software...

I don't know if SM 3.0 has any advantages over 2.0 when it comes to HTPC, but I ended up on the NF630a due to lower CPU usage when playing high def. movies. (could not find the URL of review - :sorry:)

I have built a htpc system and I am satisfied with the performance of the system, need to do some serious playing around with the post processing features but so far everything is working great. fun while it lasted :S Seems my joy is to be short lived. After a few months of stable htpc use, my pvr150 did a nose dive. At first it, stopped changing channels and then it died almost totally. It could be picked up by the os but would not install properly. This time I tried another machine (an old Gateway P3 with winxp sp2) with...

Well, I really didn't want to have to buy a video card just for this purpose, or a "really" old one at that... but I couldn't find a cheaper solution. I picked up a brand new Radeon X1050 for like $35.... considering a VGA 2 Composite converter runs about $60, I guess its worth it... plus it frees the reserved member that was put...

MP1 MP2 Ongoing Noisy HTPC :( DE
I gotta say that Zalman fans really aren't as quiet as they could be. I'd recommend Nexus fans - really quiet even at full speed. You don't say which Zalman CPU cooler you're using, but several of their newer coolers have been criticised for noisy fans. You could look at fitting a cooler that will take a standard fan, rather than...

Why not use two equal hdd's and put them in raid 0? Noise level will be the same but disk throughput will be much higher! I also can recommend the zalman heatpipe hdd coolers to reduce the noise level of the hdd's to minimum! Also too consider if you're planning to switch to digital tv in a (short) period: 2x 150mce card instead of...

That motherboard uses the Intel GMA 950. While it may support HDTV resolutions, that doesn't mean it has the required speed to playback HDTV with MediaPortal. "It has Intel GMA 950 on-board graphics, which is ok for a multimedia PC, but don’t even think of running 3D games on it. This is simply not the idea of this motherboard."...

A small update from me, I spent some time yesterday making some changes to the system. I placed the MCE remote receiver inside the casing, re-soldered the IR eye, so it now sits behind the mirror on the front, where the DVD's original eye was. Then I added the smalles USB hub I could find, re-soldered a USB connector from the hub to...

the age of the PSU may or may not have an affect. i've had some PSU's go for years and years, and others die fairly quickly. The way I see it, you've got 4 pretty likely possibilities in no particular order. PSU, RAM, heat, or one of the new components is bad. To see if its heat related, can you check the temps somehow? At a...

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer to see if S4 even supported by the motherboard, strange as it may seem, if S3 works, usually S4 is a doddle to set up within windows power management and has no other adjustments. We know your system supports ACPI, but has it been "cut down" in any way by Aopen, and only they would know.

MP1 MP2 Ongoing Advice needed DE
if the PSU is already able to handle the system, then adding a PCI card to the system wont even make a dent into the amount of extra required power needed. PCI cards consume very little power compared to something like a hard drive or GPU. As for the AIW, I would forget about it and purchase a hardware encoding TV tuner. the...

MP1 MP2 Ongoing Antec Fusion DE
Hmm I've been wondering about this. I was thinking of putting one of these in the fusion, so that I'd get the MCE remote functionality. Just not sure if it will fit/work (dunno if ir sensor will be covered) I also don't know the dimensions of the antec VFD to compare (this ones W: 169mm H: 38mm D: 27mm)

I think it is TOTALLY different. Card sharing for purposes of using other people cards etc etc is not the same as recording a stream to watch later or time-shift while watching another encrypted channel. Or are you talking technically? I have never looked at the APIs around but I suspect that you cannot push a recorded stream...

Hi all, I just wanted to report that I got a new freeview (dvb-t) aerial fitted with digital grade cable and now everything is spot on :) Seems although I have a good strong signal from the transmitter, the old aerial wasnt very good at splitting the digital signal from the analogue signal which resulted in low signal quality.
