The process taking all the CPU time is simply mediaportal.exe!
It's not like the bug in My Music though - the cpu usage, while wandering a bit isn't particularly spikey and remains even if I minimise MP to the tray.
I experimented a little more and discovered that I get less CPU usage if I use other codecs (ie not Purevideo). I...

It basicly depends on the quality of the ad converters of the vga port.
I have 26" LCD tv and I didn't see any difference in picture quality.
There is only one thing I'm considering, as I live in 50Hz europe, the vga input can be switched to 75Hz which is a multiple of 50Hz. Which should give better sync between picture and sound...

If your image is shifted a little to the left it's because the horizontal back porch is a little too low. Try increasing it by 2 or 3 & see how it looks (there's no need to change any other settings).

This is the first HTPC i've ever built, It's gonna be a full sized computer. I need to know what motherboard/cpu I should get for it, your thoughts are greatly appreciated i'm in the usa.

Problems inside
Well... Got a bit of a problem with some of the parts. The DVD Burner and gaphics card crashes inside the cabinet. The problem is that the fan of the grapichscard is aboit 1.5 cm to big... So to solve the problem I tracked down a DVD burner that is shorter than the NEC. A new Sony will solve the problem. It's about...

Have been testing the MP for a long time on my laptop and are now ready to take the step into the HTPC world. So yestoday and today...
MP has the external display plugin, and you set that to the Hitachi 44740 (or something similar, can't remember by heart) after you install the drivers from the disks, and that's it...
Btw, i also read the description of the MCE601 before buying it, and it also said silent, but still it's a bit noisy for my standards.... (i can...

Christoph,
I did actually find that solution and tried it - it looked blurry on the LCD.
Maybe its a TV specific thing - I have a Toshiba 37WL58 37" LCD.

The 1.5 CPU is more than enough. With a hardware encoding TV card like the PVR-150 i've seen people run MP installations on 800mhz systems - complete with DVD and DivX/XviD playback.
Definatly agree on upgrading to 512MB of memory. Anything more than that - especially without any gaming - would just be under-utilized.
As for...

I've got it already set up in the living room right now, and I'm building it in installments (read: buying parts in installments). Here's my setup:

Well i would say Hi but i could not get my tongue around the name
anyway seriously either processors are more than capable of running MP
and i would say Cost/personal preferences tend to rule the roost nowadays. as far as the graphics look at http://www.giga-byte.com/VGA/Products/Products_GV-NX66256DP.htm. I have the agp version...

Re: Update
I did think of that, It would save lots of space. The only thig is that i could not find a nice way to connect it all and finding a 200 watts external power supply was an impossible task too.
Anyway. I have made my aluminium (1,5mm thick, so pretty solid) bottom half of the case. and everything fits (pretty crammed...

While planning my own HTPC I came to the conclusion that no available case would do the trick for me.
solution; build your own...
been there.. done that :)
But doesn't help.
Seems like we have found some kind of bug. See other topic for more info.

I just got this case and am exciting about building my HTPC, but when I put the thing on its side (what I intend to run it as), I noticed the the side where the vertical stand would go (if it was used) is unfinished. Man its fugly. I'm greatly disappointed now. Tell me that there is a metal cover in the case that I haven't found yet.

Hi all,
Is there anyone who try to put a hvr 1100 or a hvr1300 in a pundit-R ??
The 2nd question is : did it work ?? Indeed the pundit is very selective on his TV cards (see the others topic on it)

Hi Brocklander,
got my PVR500 MCE for about 150 Euros.
A lot of online shops offer the European MCE 2005 Remote for prices from Euro 30,- to 40,-, but at least in Austria i don't know anyone shipping to New Zealand.
regards,
Helmut

the 2496 is working very well. I dont know what you mean by 2 different cards, but it offers a hardware mixer that is accessed by several "virtual" cards. Most usefull for pro use I think.
Stable drivers, good sound.

instead of the LC11 I'm going to use a LC02 as I already have a suitable DVD-ReWriter for it and cause it is quite a hassle to obtain a LC11 for a nice price at the moment.
Further I am going to use a MSI FX5200 GFX board as it uses no cooler and it puts me in the position to connect both my TV (S-Video) as...

Hi ya'll
Glad to see so many people using the Thermaltake Tenor. For the cash it's still the best out there. Mine's been running under my TV for a while now and I've not had a single problem with it. I disconnected the front fan and I put in a passivly cooled GeForce 6200 and so the only sound I get now is my PSU. This I shall be...

Nice to see another Irish user on the forums!
I've been tinkering around with MediaPortal for a couple of months now; it's worringly addictive! Really looking forward to the full stable release 0.2 (0.1.3.0 and earlier a bit flaky).
