hi, i would prefer a newer motherboard like the asus m2a. you could use a low profile scyte ninja cpu cooler with a papst or noctua fan. with this combo you can even top the pretty good noise level of the zalman cooler. but the rest looks just fine. edit: if you also need a psu i recommend the seasonic s12 and m12 series.

Not much choice in UK on this one. Asrock P4VM900-SATA2 Socket 478 VIA PCI-E found at ebuyer.com overclockers.co.uk does not have a single 478 board. Here i would go around a computer fair, to find something that is not current technology. good luck with your search

I have what is kind of an offbeat (but simple) requirement for recording TV. I have a FTA satellite receiver that has an attached USB drive that can be used to make recordings. unfortunately it has no PVR capabilities so one has to manually start and stop the recording of sat shows. Most of what I will record is HD and I would prefer...

Looks nice. Personally, I'd go for a 45w processor if the price is right. True, you can't get quite up to the speed of your 65w and they cost a bit more, but for a computer that's always on and when you're looking for reliability, less heat and less power makes sense. I was spec-ing systems today, actually, and decided on the 45w for...

Great stuff, says connection succeeded this time. Thanks My card isn't recognised in the TV server thing either. So it's looking like I won't be able to link this device with MP? Well I won't worry too much about getting it to recognise this particular device, as I believe the device won't be staying with me long. Only managed to...

pezzer, you're absolutely right the case itself is not that pricy. It's all the extras you need to make it passive that's pricy as hell, I ended up having worth 800 EUR worth of case-stuff in my shopping cart. I could fill 2 htpcs with hardware for all my needs for that price, it's just too steep.. Don't know of any mcubed/hfx...

Your choice :) However, I don't have any heat problems without these 2x 60mm fans. I only have 1x 80mm fan in my PSU. Ok my case has a bit more space, but doesn't have air holes in the top like yours. I don't think you will have a heat problem. If you did, you could under volt your CPU (which you should do anyway) and also under...

Thanks for the reply. It was a moment of madness really - it basically came down to the fact that home Premium was cheaper than XP Pro! I run Vista on my other machine (in the study - 3200+ Athlon with 1Gb and 6600 AGP graphics) and find it run quite well (although I don't really put it to task!). I haven't yet managed to set it up...

Hi again, Is anyone running with an X-Plosion soundcard? What I need to know is whether the SPDIF IO connector on the actual card will output SPDIF the same as the optical/coax? It says in the little documation there is that this is for adding an external spdif panel. The reason I ask is that I am planning on using HDMI...

perhaps you may take a look at Eventghost http://www.eventghost.org/wiki/EventGhost:About There is a plugin for gamepads. Your desired function to load programs. and you can set the buttons for your gamepad. I've been looking for myself just a few weeks ago, but look at it - its pretty intuitive once you figured out how it works.

Noise isn't the issue. Its due to the low amount of RAM, and since there is extra drive activity from utorrent. Basicly I just want to make it as snappy as possible, but I guess I could just split the pager file between the drives.

UPDATE: Ok, Well the system is now built using almost these specs. Have found so far: Case is good, rather solid and fairly simple to use. However, a rather large gotcha when using this case with a MicroATX board is that you loose a PCI slot on the riser. The riser has, from top to bottom, PCI slot, PCI-E slot and PCI slot...

These are recommended PSU's for HTPC: High Q: - Seasonic - Corsair ("Seasonic in disguise"- but even lower noise) - Mist (rebranded?) Good test resaults - Chill Innovation (Dannish?) Cheap - somewhat OK reputation (depending on who you ask) - NorthQ You might want to take a look here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/section10.html...

But stil it is less then 1 standalone BlueRay Player+MP3 player so I did good I think! Good luck with your build, it looks to become really nice!
