I would like a feature to save the aspect ratio for the channel, as some of my channels are in 4:3 and others are 16:9 only channels.
Switching forth and back is not as easy as on a normal TV, because they typically have a button on the remote for this.

For what it's worth, I think the MCE remote PLAY button should be mapped to ACTION_SELECT_ITEM for that window by default, because it is intuitive.
But the real reason I'm posting is that I'm curious if there is a way to get around the OK, LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN, BACK, MUTE, TVPWR and STANDBY...

Yes, a lot of people probably do not have access to the internet from their HTPC, so they would really have trouble installing it then. If an installer that downloaded needed parts from the internet was provided then a full installer would also need to be available, I think.

Media Portal Interface is really friendly. But i think, as the other MC/HTPC interface... it miss some ambience animation...
I would agree to that mPlayer would be great, works without a hitch on xbmc, and should do the same on the pc, VLC is so pooor picture quality - thats why i never use it - unless i really must.. VLC on my crt would be like composite cable instead of RGB :S
