i have an old laptop it ha's 200mhz, 72mb ram and 20gig hd,
is it possible to use MP with it im only gona use it to play music.

i have tryd geexbox but i dont like the layout on it, is there any other alternative or am i stuck with geexbox?
I remember my P3-133 was perfectly able of playback of MP3's, but there are other more CPU intensive formats that wouldn't play (that was around 1997 i think...)
IMO a linux derivative would be your best choice if you need a frontend, but you'll need some more memory to compensate for the lack of cpu power, because if your box starts swapping memory while playback there is no way for a 200MHz laptop to cope

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal.
