I've bought a MCE remote from ebay and would like to build/buy an IR reciver that will work with it in media portal.

I have an IR man already but i assume that this wont work?

thanks

A genuine MCE remote comes with a USB IR receiver and 2 IR blasters - you should not have to build/buy an IR receiver....

I bought it from ebay with no IR reciver or IR blasters.

I dont need the IR Blasters so i was wondering if i could either build one or use my irman reciver.

    thanks

I doubt it - one of the neat features of the MCE remote is that it will both put your PC to standby and wake it from standby. To do this you would require the MCE IR receiver as it is "always on" (powered by the USB port) and has the smarts built-in to wake the PC.

If you are happy to do without that feature, you could probably use a simple IR receiver and HIP to control MediaPortal....

I recently installed 2.4.1. Can anyone tell me why my IE remote does not show up under Input Devices (I show only "WiFi Remote," which I do not have)? I guess from this, that the mapping steps basically work. Please try to map some of the keys you mention to be not working and upload the log files afterwards. Maybe @Brownard can see something and a solution can be found. Please open a thread in the OnlineVideo section for this, we should not mix 2 topics in one thread.

I think I've solved the remote button issue, there was an unknown driver in Device Manager which I discovered was the Serial IO GPIO driver. Installing that appears to have solved the remote problem. Who knew? Thanks to all who contributed to my solution.

If the files are accessible on your network, which I guess they must be if PowerDVD can play them then you should be able to find them in MP2. See here for further info.
