How can I switch to Secondary Audio Program (SAP) or schedule a recording with SAP on some channel?

Maybe if you'd clarify the question a bit? Meaning in a few sentences, what you want, what you want MP to do etc.

I had no idea what SAP is, but from a Google search it looks like it is a service that is peculiar to North America.

As I have not seen any reference to SAP anywhere in MediaPortal, I would say that MediaPortal does not support this service..... :(

    I thought you knew

That's wierd, I thought you guys would know what SAP is. I don't live in the US by the way, maybe it has alternative names in other countries?

Some channels have two audio streams, usually in two different languages. It's useful in movie or documentary channels where the audio is a dubbed version and the SAP (Secondary Audio Program) is the original audio.

It's an important setting, I'd like to be able to switch back-and-forth between both streams with a key while watching TV or to schedule a recording with a specified audio setting.

If this feature isn't yet part of MP (it really should be! How did you guys miss this?), are there any workarounds?

What country do you live in, then?

Are you referring to digital or analogue TV?

Don't take my answer as gospel - it is just that I have never heard of it and I have not seen anything like this in MediaPortal. The fact that no one else has responded to your post seems to indicate that I am not the only person who hasn't heard of SAP.... :?

Maybe, someone else who knows of SAP will respond...

If you have a DVB card, hit F9 on a channel with multiple streams and in the list you'll be able to change between audio streams but I don't know if it's working yet.

For the recording part, this should be a future request.

If you have an analog card, I think it's not going to happen ;) Two audio streams on an analog signal, as far as I know, is rare (I know it's used often in Switzerland, "son bi-canal", and germany maybe) and I don't know any software that support it.
Of course, this last paragraph could be completely wrong ;)

Hi Taipan and Molokoids, thanks for answering.

Brazil. Judging by the name of it (SAP is an English abbreviation), I don't believe it's a technology that's exclusive to this country.

    Analog TV.

Molokoids said there's something like it in Switzerland and Germany, even though he says it's rare.

I was expecting more european users to know about it and use it, since they have to deal with so many languages there. Wierd.

Taipan, being from Australia, it makes sense to me if you say you've never heard of it, the majority of TV shows and documentaries today are produced in English, so there doesn't seem to be much use for SAP down there I guess.

SAP is somewhat popular over here, many TVs have SAP reception capability over cable and antenna. Globo, a major TV channel that broadcasts to the whole country and abroad, also offers SAP for movies and TV shows. 5 channels on my analog cable offer SAP: Discovery, TNT, FOX, Universal and People & Arts.

Usually I watch movies and TV shows with SAP, and sometimes I'd like to record with SAP. Even my old VCR has SAP.

I recently bought a Hauppauge PVR500, I haven't had a chance to check if it can somehow recognize or tune into SAP audio, I don't know if it's supported or something that would require hacking of any sort. I'll look into it.

    I want SAP ASAP! :)

Hey danfg, I think I was wrong in my second statement and it seems SAP is supported by some software (BeyondTV, mythtv...). So you should post a feature request maybe with some kind of information.

I think it's not too common in Europe cause we either sub or dub movies.

First thing to say is that I use MP1, whereas I believe that you use MP2. @ge2301 has just posted that MP2 has a "folder view" in addition to the "library view", so you should be able to set up your system as I describe below, but the details will differ. In MP1, the folders that are to appear on the "Videos" panel are defined in "MP...

I agree about the dash instead of colon on the LIVE thing. I did a little change to get the current program, just removed the D from the tags. Not that important, so I dont upload any new file. A little sad about the end time, but nothing to do about it.

On the assumption you are using an OTA/Cable or Sat tuner then no internet connection is required for live TV recordings. BUT only if you already have Media Portal fully installed and functional. For all practical purposes you will need an internet connection to get Media Portal properly installed on a PC! Yes.
