Not just me failing to figure that one out then!
You change the order of TV channels in TVServer config\TV Channels\Mapping tab, arrange as you wish (up & down options) and save with ok.

Open MediaPortal - TV Server Configuration
"Force Import" on the Plugins/Xmltv/General dialogue, (ignore the status)

I posted in the EPG section a while back concerning MediaPortal EPG using EPG Collector and MediaPortal xmltv plugin...
I meant use MP client to try to spot how it's requesting streams for specific channels and then try to do the same with VLC.
TV Server development looks dead so I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out by yourself if it's even possible.
