Don't know how to (and don't dare :) ) edit in your wiki, but I have a recommendation you could enter if you want:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 16MB 320GB
It is remarkably silent... I can't say I'm getting any disturbance at all and I'm rather fuzzy about noise from my computers...

As for how to make a noisy HD silent I think it would be cheaper to invest in a new silent drive! It's a bi..ch to try to get rid of or to close in HD noise. I have another Seagate drive: Seagate Barracuda ES ST3400620NS 16MB 400GB that I bought for I thought it was the most silent one of the Seagate drives... (...yes I love Seagate drives :) ) BUT enclosed in a Scythe Silent Drive box it is still emitting more annoying noise than the unenclosed recommendation above... (I contacted a Seagate rep. and got the info that the ST3320620AS 16MB 320GB was their most silent 3½" drive)...

Also if not tried or tested... is it possible to use a SD or SD micro card with a card reader? Is USB2 sufficient for the streaming? Wouldn't that be a very cheap solution?

I don't think the SD card thing would work it is just not fast enough for writing/reading time shift buffers...
The only option I guess there is is using a solid state disk (expensive!) or a RAM-disk.

sd tv needs most often < 10MBit,
newer sd cards are able to write/read more than 4 MByte -> should be enough

I've used/owned several seagate drives in past (also the one you named),
idle sound is ok, but not really good,
whereas seek noise is pretty intensive
as newer seagates drives do not support AAM anymore

my recommandations are based on personal experience and
    reviews ( e.g. from silentpcreview.com & german pc magazine c'T)

    I named 2 different drives:
    ST3320620AS 16MB 320GB and
    ST3400620NS 16MB 400GB

...where I think the later 400GB drive is not acceptable as a "silent drive" but the 320GB drive is OK IMO (can't say that I really can hear it, and in comparison with 2 commercial products 1. Samsung DCB-P850Z 160GB and 2. JVC DR-MH50 250GB it is very silent)...
...if the Samsung HD501LJ is better on drive noise I have no idea but I think I'm gonna have to test it in any new project, it "sounds" very interesting... :D

the two hd501lj's drives I own are really way more silent than the seagate ones
(though one of them is noticeably quieter than the other one)

maybe time to get back on topic ;)
(or start another thread if you have further questions)

So a Samsung T166 HD501LJ it is... I'm going to exchange my loudest seagate with one...

Back on topic then, or closer anyway. :) I have noticed that it isn't possible to record the content of the timeshift buffer (or is it?). The JVC HD video that I own has that facility... would be great in MP?

To be fair the normal uninstall is usually more than sufficient. I regularly uninstall and reinstall MP 1 as part of the testing process and only very rarely have I needed to use the manual procedure posted by @CyberSimian to overcome the error you ran into. I also believe there is a procedure to repair the MySQL install in the event...

    MP1 MP2 MP2 - V2.4.1 Mouse support for timeshift DE
I guess it's really a rare case, most users use remote controls, then keyboards and last mouse. I tired to design things mouse friendly as much as possible, because it was almost impossible when I joined the team. As former WMC user I quickly decided to create a WMC-like skin which comes as close as possible in terms of appearance and...

I uninstalled MP, made sure no sub folders were left n any programmes folders, changed the computer name, rebooted, installed MP and set logs and rebooted and ran TVServer. Didn't do anything in regard to S Loopback adapter. I've been using NextPvr since the problem became insurmountable. Only reason it's not a good long term...
