why tearing happens: under windows xp, and when aero is disabled, all windows can draw their content directly to the screen. they usually do that without synchronizing to the vertical refresh of the display (and so does MP, which would be a nice thing to fix for someone interested to get into MP development i think). when the application updates it's content while the monitor is still busy drawing the old content, it happens that the monitor has drawn a part of the screen already (say, the top 400 lines) and when trying to draw line 401 it suddenly uses the new content. and so lines 1-400 are from the old content, and 401 to the rest of the screen are new content, thus creating a weird image.

what aero does: aero simply redirects all content which is drawn by an application into a seperate part of the memory (this is why dwm.exe uses _a lot_ of memory). it then waits for the vertical blank, which is when the monitor does not do any drawing. now it is safe to send the image from the memory to the monitor without causing any tearing.

i hope that this is written understandably :)

yes, the naming of the filter is wrong. but this is just a name assigned to the filter by MP (which can be fixed easily, i will remember to do this soon). if there is "EVR input 0", you are indeed using the Enhanced Video Renderer.

Eabin: I actually was using a very new SVN, newer than the version you mentioned, however it did not run smoothly. I will use the newest version and send the log-files in case it doesn't work, however it will take a few days, as I will be travelling a lot this week.

@ Eabin: Sorry it took some time but now I am back. I installed today the latest version (RC2 + SVNs) and it seems to be working great! I do however have the problem, that the picture on the TV freezes at times while the sound continues. I have no idea whether this is EVR related, in case it is, I attached the log-files. I also did report it as a bug,

thanks, i will have a look at it.

frodo: i just figured out that i do have the same problem when playing a CSSed DVD directly from the disc drive. i have a habit of ripping a disc before playing it, so i never ran into this problem before. so i'm awaiting your commit to test it :)

    Hello,

I've been trying the evr feature a couple of times now. I love it since seems to give me better picture quality (probably because i can get vector adaptive deinterlacing to work with evr only).

Unfortinately MP seems to crash randomly when i enable it, leaving no choice to go back to the verry stable vrm9 option.

Posting some of the error logs wich i got right after a crash, hoping it wil help to make evr support more stable.

    Kind regards,

    Nyria.

Currently using MP RC2 with SVN 09-11-07-Rev15841

I have these problems too. Picture freezes sometimes, sound continues. And random crasches where MP just exits with a error message from the OS. I'll try to add some logs here when it happens the next time.

nyria: could you please try the attached dll (just replace the one in your Mediaportal installation directory). it is essentially the same as the one from the installer, but contains a bit more debugging output about the activity surrounding the things that happened in your original logfile. after a crash, please attach evr.log, which should be in c:\programdata\team mediaportal\mediaportal\log. (the topmost directory may be hidden).

Hi all, I don't frequently update my MediaPortal and before seeing if it's really useful I used to browse the Changelog to determine if this update is necessary for my system or not. Today I wanted to check the Changelog for version 1.34 (1.31 installed on my system) and I was asked for a “Jira” login. I tried to use the same one as...
