MP saves the path with the file names. You can manually edit the TVdatabaseVxx.db3 with the SQLight Browser (can be found in the docs folder of MP).
Open the database and take a look into the "recorded" table.

sorry cannot help you there (much), because I do not have a 5.1 speaker system (currently saving money for it ;)).
Depends on the file types I guess.
For MPEG / DVD / TV you can set the Audio Decoder in MP. You have to change the output settings of these Decoders. Eg. for DScaler and MPEG/DTS/AC3 in Configure->Decoder...

i don't think there's a way round this yet. see that mp tries to get id3tags and embedded coverart etc from every single file. however, have you updatet your musicdatabase in configuration? this causes a massive improvement of speed in my case. but folders with a large amount of files still take some time, thats right

Create the (local or domain) user you want with a good password.
Use i.e. TweakUI for WXP from MS to set auto login info.
Then you have no prob login into your box using RDP using the credentials afterwards.
