General questions about HTPC Hardware go in here.
Wish I could help, but I haven't even purchased my new components yet. Sorry to hear you're having troubles. What processor are you running on that board? What, and how much, memory? Is anyone here running the ASUS A8N-VM CSM successfully? If so, what are your hardware specs?

I guess the noise issue is very subjective and depends on where you put your computer. I was initially using computers for recording music, and since then, I have been obsessed with building computers that are silent enough that other noise sources (such as traffic) become dominant. My point is that computers can be very noisy and...

I too have interest in this subject. I have been looking at building an HTPC (mostly from parts I currently have), and I like the MCE2005 interface/ease of use, but the cost is a turnoff. Also, its inability to use FFDShow is a problem for me as well (I'd at least like to try this out after hearing about how much it improves DVD -...

Just a quick question. Are the LCD screen welcome msg's programmable or are they already pre installed when u buy a case that has an lcd ? for example rather than " hello and welcome " can you change it to, I dont know, welcome to my entertainment system"?? I'm wondering about it because I saw several cards on the supported list that say they use the Phillips chipset like mine. Is that the only thing that makes the difference or could it still be software and how do I tell?

The PVR-250 is the older model (numbers are wrong way round, go figure) which uses more chips and is more expensive. You can still get them but when I ordered a PVR-250, I got the 150MCE which I have now. Hauppauge said exactly that as well. The 150MCE is cheaper, has FM radio, and has much more actively developed drivers.

Hi, I bought myself an vga -> scart adaptor, but when I connected it between pc and tv, no signal at all, so i screwd it open, it appears that there were only 4 cables in it, no RGB at all. As long as your main monitor resolution is low (480i, 576i) you shouldnt have too much problem. You have to be able to clone it on the the little screen. Text maybe a little hard to read though. If you get it from a fairly large store they usually give you up to 2 weeks to return it if your not happy with it ;)

kaliatech, thank you for the reply. My temps aren't that bad, even running BOINC/Seti in the background 100% of the time. I'd put money down that they had to remove the PSU to get that in there. It's a tight fit, not helped at all by the little tray in the front for the media card reader and USB ports. It can be done, but again, it's tiiiight in there.
